Does anyone have an availability date on this one, Amazon and Casemate do not have it in stock as of yet. I'm interested in this one for sure………………. |
dibble | 18 Jan 2016 11:50 p.m. PST |

Thanks very much for the info Paul……………. |

Double G The release date keeps changing all the time, so lets hope this one is still on. I'm not sure, so don't quote me on this, but I think his book might be connected in some way, or the contents may be constantly updated or being altered in relation to some recent archaeological discoveries. If so, that would take time to reflect if whatever has been discovered could possibly change the history or known knowledge of the attacks against Hougoumont. Alternatively, the long wait could just be due to problems on the publishing side? |

I dropped Fonthill a line recently, since it is not showing on their site, and got the following: Dear Phillip Thank you for your interest. The book is being delayed due to unforeseen author's personal circumstances. We are still proceeding with the project, but at this point I cannot give a more concrete release information. The best I can offer is later this year, possibly the second half. We will be updating all our data feeds shortly. Kind regards Emma Evans Cheers, Phil |

Phil, THanks for the information, guess we'll all have to hold on a bit longer, looking like late in the year at this point…….. Regards, George |
Gazzola | 28 Jan 2016 5:00 a.m. PST |
Double G The only positive thing about the delay is that it will give us time to get through all the other Waterloo themed titles we have bought. LOL |

Gazz, Thanks for looking on the bright side; I was especially looking forward to this one, an entire volume based on the fighting in and around Hougoumont. Too bad……………. |

Double G There is another book available that concentrates on the same area of the battle – Hougoumont The Key To Victory In Waterloo by Julian Paget, published 1999. Interesting how Hougoumont is considered as the key to victory by Paget, when another author, Brendan Simms, considers it was the defence of La Haye Sainte, in his book The Longest Afternoon. But I guess different authors have their own opinions of what won the battle. Personally, I see both defences as just part of the overall reason as to why the French lost. |

Thanks Gazz, might look into the Paget book since the Franklin book could be a long way off. I appreciate the information, thanks for taking the time to post……….. |

Double G Yes, sadly, there is no guarantee that it will be become available by the new publication date. Anyway, I have Paget and Simms books on order. And, although they look fairly short, page wise, it will be interesting to see what they contain. |

Thanks Gazz, I'll look into the Simms book too then. I'm curious about the blurb regarding the Franklin book claiming that there were multiple French penetrations into Hougoumont aside from the famous closing of the gates episode. Am curious as to what they were; am also curious as to where exactly the Nassau and Hanoverian troops were fighting once they gave up their original positions in the woods…………. |

Information on the book's progress here: link |
Brechtel198 | 08 Feb 2016 1:03 p.m. PST |
The most noteworthy being that the book is entirely from the allied point of view-again. |
Ben Avery | 08 Feb 2016 3:34 p.m. PST |
Apparently not if you read the whole post Kevin. EDIT: it appears Mr Franklin has actually bolded the relevant sections for you. |
Brechtel198 | 08 Feb 2016 4:16 p.m. PST |
Then I guess I misinterpreted that shown below: Of course, I have not mentioned the French here. That information will have to wait for another day. I will only add, the new French material from various private collections, AnF and Vincennes more than matches that of the British and German given above. |
Brechtel198 | 08 Feb 2016 4:20 p.m. PST |
I checked the blurb on Amazon on the book and it states that both French and allied source material was used for the book, so my apologies for the error. |
Ben Avery | 08 Feb 2016 4:25 p.m. PST |
Very gracious Kevin. I can see how it could be misread. |
Gazzola | 08 Feb 2016 5:33 p.m. PST |
Book expanded. That sounds good, just as long as the publishers don't decide to 'expand' the price. LOL |
von Winterfeldt | 09 Feb 2016 12:59 a.m. PST |
usually I am not that interested about Belle Alliance, but I am looking forward to read that work. |
Ernst Boeder | 30 Apr 2017 11:46 a.m. PST |
I doubt this will ever be released. Has the book even been written yet? |
Brechtel198 | 30 Apr 2017 12:38 p.m. PST |
It is now scheduled for publication, according to Amazon, for January 2018. |
