I have a problem the problem is to provide easily inspired. Say in I'm paiting ancients. And i by accident go into the napoleonics board on tmp and see lovley painted Napoleonics. Well then i have to paint Napoleonics. Even to the point of loosing interest in the ancients I'm painting. Or mabye I'm painting Napoleonics and i happen to watch the longest day, or the Pacific on tv. Then I'd have to paint ww2. So in other words i need to limit what i look at and watch a when doning stufd. But a few days ago posted some sengoku i my self painted last spring. And for the first time got inspired by my own work…. Thats not good, now i have to hide my own figures from my self. |

If you think of painting as therapy just let the spirit of Pb guide you to the light side. Fighting it will only lead to clashes with your kids, giant hairy neighbors, elderly short people, smugglers…..and ewoks. Have patience and don't give in to the dark side…just go with the flow. The river of life….er…. river of lead….will lead you back to everything in your Pb pile in it's own time. (Thanks Porthos) |

Hobby Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder, aka Magpie Syndrome. I have a bad case myself. The long-term result, after forty+ years of continually applied collecting, isn't pretty. It's massive, and it's well-curated, but it isn't pretty. Once in a while I finish some figures here or a unit there, but never a project. They're all open-ended Of course you see some of the result in the ads I frequently post on marketplace, selling off the toys I never play with. I also usually read 3 or 4 books at a time. And I'm continually monitoring the internet…but I don't watch television, that would ruin me. I comfort myself that it's a less destructive vice than, say, gambling or collecting mistresses. You're doomed, you fool! Doomed! |

In grand military thinking there are two options: a. advancing on a small front with the possibility of a breakthrough: think Patton and Montgomery, and b. advancing on a wide front which makes the enemy retreat. Eisenhower was a firm believer in advancing on a wide front. Painting miniatures is the same. I paint on a wide front: first the helmets of the 28mm French Napoleonic dragoons (copper), then the coats of the 15mm Muskovic Streltsi (red), after that 15mm WW I Scottish infantry. Etcetera. If something "shiny" pops up they will be bought and primed. So there is not so much a lead mountain, but a PRIMED lead mountain. Therefore, Gunfreak, there is no problem at all. There is nothing wrong with losing interest in Ancients after seeing the Napoleonics. It will always return ! (This has at least happened to me during the last fifty years ;-))). And, JSchutt, if you allow me a very small correction on your post: "just go with the flow. The river of LEAD will lead you back" (;-))) |

I have the same problem; that is why I always have at least three painting projects going at one time. To make matters worse, life always interferes with finishing all of my projects (work, kids, special events that I have to attend). Often it takes me a year or more to finish off just a dozen miniatures that I have been working on. Just accept it and go with the flow. Enjoy the moment -- and not just the paining moments but even the other things that come along (especially ones that involve family and friends). Don't worry, you will still finish your painting projects, just not as fast as you planned. But that is OK. Kevin |

Do not worry about what has past, or what will be, just enjoy the moment. Life is to be lived, experienced and relished. Have fun, paint what you want, when you want, how you want. Do not be concerned. If those sengoku continue to inspire you to distraction, I offer my services. You may send them to me. 😀 |

I should have such a problem! Sounds like something to be enjoyed |

I cannot relate. Painting is only to provide gaming pieces. Once I have the figures that I need for the gaming I want to do, the painting stops. It doesn't matter if prettier figures come on the market later – actually, "prettier" is so relative that I don't have a problem ignoring other, later figure lines, because I originally liked, and still like, the figures that I already have: and "nothing in this world has any business being perfect", so I won't follow the line of thought that my figures need "upgrading". But, Gun, you have my sympathy. Feeling compulsive is a two-edged feeling. Not rational. Difficult to be in your own skin, when your skin tingles with each newly encountered stimulus or idea…. |

So what's the problem? (Asked the guy with 15 mm ancients, Napoleonics, ACW, 28 mm SYW, 1/1200 Age of Sail, 10 mm WW2 and 3 on the painting table.) |

My ADD is the only control on my OCD(or is it the other way round)? Movies are fatal, new figures ditto. I pull a book out of the pile, that's the worst. Eventual fate:a quivering mass of random impulses. Once discussed this with Dave Kozlow, who told me he avoided distraction by reading only about the period he was working on,which also reinforced inspiration to complete project. If only I could be so disciplined! |

So comforting to know I am not alone in my affliction! Painting table currently has 15mm Second Crusade knights, Napoleonic Russians, 1/3000 WW2 ships, 10mm League of Augsburg English cavalry, 6mm French dragoons and 15 mm SYW Hanoverian infantry and cavalry. |
