Just curious to see what the FOW/BF people rate the M48 tank, for Vietnam, and/or in Fate of a Nation?

Considering 8"/13"/20"/26" for it, since it's only about 80% as fast as the M113.

I see a lot of the other stats on-line for them, but no mention of the movement rate for the vehicle.

Wanting to field some of these in Team Yankee, for Cold War Europe.

It's rated as a standard tank for movement:

Which is defined in the Flames of War rulebook. That's 12" cross-country. So do you think it's slower than say a Sherman? Wikipedia seems to suggest that both tanks max out between 25 to 30 mph.

The Abrams puts out 26 hp per ton vs. about 15 for the Sherman and the M48.

The M113 on the other hand kicks out about 22 hp per ton and maxes out at 40 MPH which is just a tad slower than the Abrams. It wasn't really that the Abrams is that much faster than the M113, it's that the Abrams has wider tracks and a better hp/ton ratio that allows it to cover cross-country terrain better than the M113. At least IMO. And from what I see above, even the M113 has better mobility than either the Sherman or M48… although the M48 probably has wider tracks that enhance mobility.

Be warned on one thing though. Infantry are WAY faster than in Flames! They have a 8/12 movement compared to 6/12 in Flames. I know 2" doesn't seem like much, but it really is a big improvement. Maybe the WWII crowd carried more stuff and were in worse shape than the modern crunchy??? Go figure.

So you want something slower than the M1, but faster than infantry. Maybe it should be about the same as the M113?

Thanks for the info.

Supposedly, 48KPH, or about 30MPH.

IIRC, the Sherman was 25MPH, but probably depends upon the variant.

Yea, infantry at 8"/turn is just silly by comparison, but it is what it is, I guess.

30 miles per hour is maximum road speed. The cross country speed was much slower. Weight ratio was similar to the M60 series with same type engine after the A3 model. So cross country speed should be around 12-15 MPH.

Yep, I read that somewhere else, but thanks for the info.
