Well, I'm still plugging away on my paper armies for the 1815 Campaign. The French and Prussians are done and I've just finished the British I Corps.

Here are the Guards and some Hannoverians.

Really looking froward to these as I want my young kids to play with me but I don't want them near my lead for now.

Just pondering – would they look better with a light green background, rather than white? I was initially tempted to think light blue for sky, but actually our viewpoint is always from overhead, so a green might fade into teh basing more.

But otherwise, really looking forward to trying some of these out. Will cavalry be side on like the artillery or face on like the infantry (part of me is tempted to think face on would be better as (a) consistent and(b) allows better representation of scale depth on a base.

And how big are these, or will they be scaleable?

But looking good

Marc,

The photos are a bit washed out here so maybe it doesn't show, but the background actually is a light green near the bottom (ground) and changing to a light blue at the top (sky)

The cavalry is face on like the infantry. I was tempted to do a side-on view, but frankly the artillery horses are a bit tedious to construct, so I opted for the much easier head-on view.) Thankfully there aren't all that many artillery horses to do.)

The pre-printed versions are scaled to about 10mm. I tried 6mm to get the impression of huge masses, but that was just a little too small and all the nifty details tended to disappear. 10mm turned out to be a good compromise: the details (like facing colors and braid and such) is still discernible, but you still get the impression of massed troops. I figure that no one is going to try to mix these miniatures with metal figures, so the scale shouldn't be an issue. I do plan to offer these as a PDF, so you can certainly scale them up or down.

I vote for PDF option. I really like your papersoldiers complete and detailed. I also agree with your choice of the background. Just I was wondering if all units are face on I would also make the artillery in this way in order to maintain the same way of representing the units, otherwise the artillery will occupy the space of a lot or cavalry rows. What do you think?

I tried the face-on artillery and it just didn't look very good. Not strong and imposing the way artillery should. And I have no clue how I'd do the horse teams front on. True the side-on artillery takes up more space, but that's actually a good thing. Most rules sets (and gamers) don't realize just how much depth artillery really takes up. You have the guns and then you have the horse teams and limbers. And behind them you have a set of caissons and their horse teams and often ANOTHER set of caissons and horse teams. An artillery battery, from the front of the guns to the last set of caissons could be a hundred yards deep.

Good news re the cavalry. And pdf will be interesting as that is a lot of card stock to post to the UK (and I would be interested in seeing how they scale downb to 5/6mm).

Interesting developments Scott

With artillery, have you considered a mix – front on guns, that fold the trails out at the back (so slightly more 3d). Limbers, I would have been hgappy with sets of face on horse teams that I would mount one behind the other, and a limber similar to the gun maybe. But it's you baby, so you run it and we'll see how it turns out.

Cheers

Marc
