As a former crewman of the kind of tank used in the San Diego incident, I can guarantee the driver of the tank was shot in the back, and the cop who shot him should have been charged with murder. I am not excusing what the joy riding panzer jockey did, but the cop could have easily climbed into the combat room of the tank, put his pistol to the back of the guys' head and order him to shut off the tank. Nobody needed to be killed. If I was the family of the driver, I would have filed a wrongful death suit against the police. Every time I see footage of the cop shooting into the tank, it burns me up.The tank driver was a sitting duck. |

I actually saw the M60 on the loose in San Diego. A friend and I were on the way into SD from the north, to attend a Civil War Round Table meeting in Balboa Park, and saw the tank going the other way on the interstate/freeway. Didn't know what it was all about until later. |
