Do you have a preferred Colonial period set of rules?

In The Heart Of Africa for sure, although TSATF is good fun too, as is Patrols In The Sudan.

I liked Howard Whitehouse's Clash of Iron. It worked really well for Zulu stuff. It was written for Romans and Celts though.

This has been stable for a couple of decades it seems …

TSATF for skirmish level actions.
Battles for Empire for larger games.
Science vs Pluck for its amazing campaign system.

The "newcomer" is Patrols in the Sudan, with its great "ambush" system.

Cheers,

Christopher

I also don't really like TSATF.
It's the hand to hand

I don't hate it, I'll play it at a convention but for my own games I like the mechanics of Sharp Practice.

Death in the Dark Continent. Great set of rules that just was not promoted enough…..

TSATF can be fun, if kept as a skirmish game. Best when the natives are run by a ref and the players compete against each other for glory and to be mentioned in dispatches! It is horrible when used for large actions.

Mute Bystander17 Jan 2016 12:54 p.m. PST

Anything but TS&TF. THW's Colonial Adventures but have not tried (just read) Victorian Steel.
