We were chatting in another thread about kit-bashing, and these minis are mostly ex-Perry Ansar now serving as Arab thureophoroi-types in my Seleucid army. All of the minis were painted by mate Craig Davey, there's more about them on t' blog: link

Impressive bunch Simon. I like the way the whole tribe has come along (levee en masse) – good idea to mix a few bows in. They seem keen to get stuck in! Garry |

These look great Simon. Useful for all sorts of things in the period – Magnesia comes to mind. |

Thanks chaps! Craig did a great job. I'm thinking of getting another box and converting some to revolting Judeans. |

Very nice. Amazing what a shield of shield can do conversions. |

I'd have thought that the Perry Ansar have all sort of potential for biblical conversions, Colin, with headswaps. What do you reckon? |

Indeed Simon. Have a look again at my blog at Amorites post and you will see them with Mad Robot Miniatures heads etc. |

Simon Could you provide some guidance on what figures you recommend for the following in 28mm? Ptolmeic - Galatians Seleucids - "Cissians & Medes" "Carmanians" "Cardacians and Lydians" Outstanding board you used. JD |

Hi JD, Ptolmeic – Galatians. I used a mixture of Black Tree and A&A nekkid Celts, with some head swaps from Foundry and other minis and Thureos from varius manufacturers including Essex minis. Seleucids - "Cissians & Medes", "Carmanians"' "Cardacians and Lydians" I didn't paint the above myself, but Craig painted some Crusader Persians that stood in for a lot of these. I recently bought them off him and I'll be posting the pics in the next few days. Best, Simon |

Got it Your site has me ordering up a monster number of figs from Aventine. I have about 1/3 of the OOB on hand. Generally what scale are you using on manpower ratio? I've tried to eyeball how you have that Raphia OOB. I'm thinking 1000 cav = 12 figs The roughly 1:100 for foot, so 5000 man pike unit = 48 figs (either 6 or 4 ranks deep) A few other questions if you don't mind - I"m using Bar-Kochva as my base OOB. The Greek Mercenaries "who fought as Phalangites", I'm looking at using Hoplite fig poses, but basing them 4 ranks deep. Maybe with spears instead of pikes? Sound OK. The Galatians – you think these 3 or 4 figs to a base? I'm going to go with a more irregular type basing look for the non-Phalanx, but want to try and get the frontage close to what would be thought right. Bar-Kochva calls all the Arabs, Cardacians/Lydians, and Cissians/Medes all "Lights". You have the Arabs mounted more like Heavy or Medium. So you think them 2, 3 or 4 figs per base? I've been told maybe to use Aventine Thureophoroi figs for the Cissians/Medes, then the Crusaders you mention for the Cardacian/Lydians? Any thoughts and suggestions welcome. |

Yes roughly 1:100, and based on Bar Kochva. I would use phalangite minis for the Greeks, with pikes; I don't think they would look different to other pikemen. Galatians I use 4 to a base, my arabs are 7 to a double base. I'm afraid I don't really know about the Cissias/Medes/Cardacians, need to research them! :-) Aventine is a sound choice, Keith's service is second to none. |
