A really enjoyable writeup, Joe. I'm glad you are having fun with the rules. I really like your narrative style of battle report.

I see your note on handling Japanese. I plan to produce two-page "campaign" guides for different theaters, such as France 1940, Pacific, etc. I'm working on one for the Winter War right now. These will be PDF downloads from the rules' Web site. I understand the effect you are trying to achieve with halving the morale checks for the Japanese. What is your reasoning behind making leg wounds incapacitation?

WP Thanks. It pales compared to your stuff but you do what you can. I kept the leader changes as we discussed and it played well. A poor leader has a 1/3rd chance of only having 1 card in the deck. A good leader has a 1/3 chance of having 3 cards in the deck. Simple

Thanks. Platoon Forward is really built for a narrative campaign. Regarding incapacitation, several points. First, at the level I play, I ignore wounds except they generate a morale chit. This keeps people on the table longer and I don't have to keep track of wounds. (Leaders are a special case.) So teh difference between wound and incapacitate is larger than you might think. I did it for two reasons: first, in my reading the Japanese soldier was less worried about cover so I stretched that to a few more casualties. Second, it keeps the Japanese from becoming super troops. I haven't counted cards so don't know mathematically what I did; just seemed simple. It only came up once in the game. I admit I have only playtested this once and it could be wrong. Where I think you really differentiate the Japanese is with almost no flexibility. I only had one officer and one NCO for the two squads. There were other NCOs but they were ineffective in driving the battle.
My thoughts. Be happy to help with any guides if you wish. I really do like the system. I am often wrong but not without an opinion!!!

I am working on short two or three page "supplements" that will be downloadable PDF files. I am trying to finish up one on the Winter War and will then move to the Pacific. A supplement will have order of battle information and period-specific optional rules. Based on your interest in the Pacific, I will do that one next.
