In the hobby, what do you enjoy painting? |
x42brown | 12 Jan 2016 1:20 p.m. PST |
Painting is a chore that needs to be done so I can enjoy playing with nice toys. It is never a pleasure. x42 |

Everything😀 Figures with a minimum of equipment. Figures requiring few colors. |

Armor. The kind you wear. Not the kind you drive. |

Painting has always been a big part of the hobby for me so there are very few things I don't enjoy painting. Napoleonics and micro-armor are probably my favorites mostly because those were the first miniatures I started collecting back in the day. Dave |

I get burned out painting units of figures so I enjoy as a break single figures. Pulp or fantasy, something along those lines. |

Perry Mordor Orcs, not sure why really, I know they are not the greatest figures ever; they are one piece plastics with some quite bad flat spots. Maybe it's because I don't have high expectations of the finished miniatures, I don't have to worry about colour choice (everythings just a slightly different shade of brown) and they are cheap! Just picked up another 34 mini's for around £10.00 GBP |

20mm vehicles, big easy, fast to paint. Not like Napoleonics! |

+1 x42Brown. The old Ral Partha Snaga Orc spearman figure was easier/simpler to paint than most. |

I'm a pretty prolific painter. I probably spend 10-15 hours per week painting. I bounce all over as far as what I enjoy painting though. Right now I am painting a bunch of 28mm Fantasy stuff for skirmish gaming, Monsters, Adventurers, town guard, etc. A few weeks ago I was cranking out 15mm ancients pretty quickly. Before that I was on a tear basing and priming a bunch of stuff for a Greek mythology game I've been working on for a couple years. Now I am re-reading the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher and am getting fired up to work on my 15mm Canim army to fight my romans. My approach to painting is to work on whatever I am into and enjoying at any given time (Usually driven by what I am reading). If I start to slow down I switch to something new that I can be enthused about. I'll always get back to the other stuff eventually. The negative is that I always have a ton of different projects in process. Positive is that in the aggregate I get more done. I am always churning stuff out and building my collection without getting burnt out. |

I absolutely love painting Calpe figures (Prussians and French). The figures seem to have a lot of folds and lines that are easy to see, catch with the brush, and have a certain realistic feel to the way they are posed. The Prussian Landweher and Uhlan cavalry are really a joy to paint. Erik |

Miniatures. Is this a trick question? |

Nothing. Don't enjoy painting at all. Hence why I haven't picked up a brush in YEARS. But hasn't stopped me buying new things though. :-) Grimm |

Faces. I very much enjoy painting, and once the face is complete, the miniature seems to develop its own personality. Of course, at my age that requires an Optivisor cranked up to full power. Still, in my mind, once the face is done, it's no longer "just a casting." |

I enjoy painting everything that I'm interested in. I don't go into a period unless I'm going to enjoy painting the figures. I am totally doing 40mm now and love seeing the detail of the paint job without squinting. |

Men and women. I paint "Men" on one door band "Women" on the other. … or anything else. I enjoy painting, even the thing I am bad at |

Tartans! Now that I've developed a certain skill at it, I enjoy giving my Highland Scottish troops their signature look. Even though this does mean they take longer to complete than a non-Scottish equivalent. I also enjoy painting attractive female figures and giving them complimentary clothing. I guess this makes me a weird combination of Allan Ramsay and Edith Head. |
