Recently during the past holiday season WR played the old Pointe du Hoc BF Flames of war scenario with some adaptions on the Ranger force structure and using his 20mm WWII collection. Interesting scenario which went down to the final twelfth turn to determine the scenario winner. Link: link Some quick photos:

Correct Millhouse. I use my 20mm collection with a different infantry basing for the larger miniatures. Large bases (4-5 miniatures) are 2" by 1.75". the smaller and command bases are 1.5" by 1.25" (2-3 miniatures). Also the HMG are based on crew size of three miniatures so the smaller base size. Never could go with the larger size base scaling for a HMG team. The bases are made of flooring tile cut and rounded corners. |

Wow that's a brilliant AAR. Very impressive game size too. I love the fact a lot of your markers and tokens are camouflaged with the table. I know the scenario was FoW but were they the rules you used too? Thanks for posting. |

War Panda. FOW rules except for the basing of the miniatures. Thanks for the supportive comments. Used FOW to introduce my sons into gaming. One plays regularly now in WWII FOW and Napoleonics. The other is strictly FOW. Used 20mm since the WWII collection was 1/72 scale/20mm miniatures and I didn't want to replace with 15mm. So the simple question was how to use the 20mm miniatures. Once the basing question was fixed, the rest of the game plays the same. I kept the same ranges and movements for ease of play. Using the larger infantry basing tends to have slight changes with the artillery template (reduced # of teams under the template since models larger) and assaults are less mob like… but all for the better. Collect has German, Italian, Japanese, American, Russian, British, New Zealand, Australian, Polish, and French armies. FOW platoon or company structure followed. The big advantage is my miniature costs are lower compared to BF excellent stuff in 15mm. The 15mm are lovely but 20mm vehicles or modern kits clearly beat the best of 15mm. Size does have its advantages like I can see the miniatures from across the table, including the mammoth convention games of 20x6 tables in my past. There are other FOW WWII scenarios on the blog site. Just look under the list of AAR or scenario tabs. Cheers from the warren. M aka WR |

Cool, I love 20mm and FOW gives a brilliantly fun and tactical game. I haven't played in a while but its probably time to try them out again. Great that you've introduced your sons to the hobby- I hope when my two sons are old enough they'll still be interested. |

Great looking game! I like how you did the cliff, perfect for gaming Pointe du Hoc. As a fellow FOW 1/72 player, it's always fun to see others doing the same! |

If interested. The smoke templates seen in above photo are bent brass tubing to artillery template size and glued with dowel pin. The smoke puffs are just two inch cotton balls from a makeup store. I can place the smoke template around the miniature bases and then just fill in gaps with the cotton smoke balls to avoid damage to the miniatures. Glad to hear their are others using 20mm vs. 15mm for FOW. Lone 20mm FOW gamer on the west coast it seemed. Always got the FOW gamer "look" when I GM'd convention games but after seeing the terraced tabletop they came in droves. My Omaha beach convention game for different scenery. link
