On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a poor loser and 10 is a gracious loser, how do you rate yourself?

Patrick R06 Jan 2016 1:58 p.m. PST

About 0.5 …

Mugwump06 Jan 2016 2:00 p.m. PST

About 5, I don't like it but I won't be demonstrative about it.

It depends on how gracious the winner behaves.

Rich Bliss06 Jan 2016 2:04 p.m. PST

10. As long as I got to play. I hate games that are decided before I even move.

8, I hate to loose, but since the dice gods never seem to give me any help I take it in stride. I play for enjoyment and with friends, so loosing is not that big a deal. I don't play competition games anymore, seen to much of the bad that comes out in them.

boy wundyr x06 Jan 2016 2:17 p.m. PST

10, as long as my loss is spectacular. Either a last minute fail or my first move ends the game. Basically, a diva of losing.

Frankss06 Jan 2016 2:22 p.m. PST

It about the game not winning or losing so say a 9 but then it can be effected by the winnners reaction that is why not a 10.

Raynman Supporting Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 2:24 p.m. PST

I don't mind losing in a good game. But, the winner is going to know he was in one hellava fight!

Col Durnford06 Jan 2016 2:32 p.m. PST

Solo player. I'm good but the other guy is a…..

jefritrout06 Jan 2016 2:33 p.m. PST

I will say an 8, because it depends on the winner. Then again, I'm a Browns fan and a Villa fan so we're good at it.

Winning is usually nice but I care about having a fun, visually attractive game more than outcome. As the Spanish Navy I got my butt clobbered two weeks ago (slaughtered actually) by the US but had great fun. Last week I actually did well as the US getting surprised in the morning at Cedar Creek and had a good time but would have probably had more fun had the dice not hated the Rebels quite so badly.

IUsedToBeSomeone06 Jan 2016 2:44 p.m. PST

As I never lose I wouldn't know….. :-)

John the Greater06 Jan 2016 2:58 p.m. PST

I guess about a 9. I always have a big, winning, smile on my face when I turn over the table and storm out.

Seriously, I am a good sport. I figure I am about 50/50 for win/loss. If I was hitting .500 I would be in the Hall of Fame.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 2:59 p.m. PST

Generally a 9 or a 10. A good game is more important than winning or losing. I am less gracious if the winner is a jerk about the whole affair.

Ottoathome06 Jan 2016 3:08 p.m. PST

Don't care abut winning or loosing. The game is meaningless. It's only playing with toy soldiers. It's an excuse for a social event with other like minded people. Besides, I've already won if the game comes off.

If the other guy is one of those people who "HAS to win," I'll play along and throw the game to him. If he needs the win that bad, then he's rather pitiable.

Personal logo Parzival Supporting Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 3:09 p.m. PST

I try to be a 10. Only my opponents can really judge whether I succeed at that level of graciousness or not.

Winston Smith06 Jan 2016 3:13 p.m. PST

8. I expect to lose, but am sometimes pleasantly surprised.

Winston Smith06 Jan 2016 3:14 p.m. PST

Now, let's see how our regular opponents would rate us…..

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 3:23 p.m. PST

I always shake hands and congratulate my opponents and allies after a game.

I would rate myself as a 7 because occasionally, I have to remind myself to not act frustrated mid-game when things go poorly. But that's within the bounds of my overall behavior which is a 2 on a scale of 1 (heavily misanthropic) to 10 (I don't even have words for that type of behaviour).

Also, 7 rhythmically fits:

I'm a seven, baby
so why doncha ki-i-ill me-ee?

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 3:31 p.m. PST

It honestly varies. Sometimes I'm a 10 and simply am in it for fun. Sometimes I'm a 1. It depends on who I am playing with and how the game was set up. I'm pretty easy going, but some people push my buttons and I hate to lose to them. Others are just cool to hang out with and it doesn't matter if I win or lose.

tkdguy06 Jan 2016 3:32 p.m. PST

Depends on how gracious the victor is. 8 or 9 on the average.

10. My pride has long been permanently damaged by losing way more than my fair share of battles. They got the idea for the TV show "The Biggest Loser" from my career as a gamer.

MHoxie06 Jan 2016 3:37 p.m. PST

9 -- I've had lots of practice.

tberry740306 Jan 2016 3:38 p.m. PST

I'm not a loser! I'm not! I'm not! I'M NOT!

This game is stupid! And the dice are broken! And you guys suck!

<Stomp Stomp Stomp> <Slam>

RavenscraftCybernetics06 Jan 2016 3:41 p.m. PST

10 – the play is the thing!

Lascaris06 Jan 2016 3:41 p.m. PST

I'm bi-modal. If the scenario is not very competitive (unless it's supposed to be that way) then I'm not a great loser. If the game is good though I don't mind losing at all. So, I'm a 4 or 10 depending.

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Jan 2016 3:49 p.m. PST

Probably a 9 – lots of practise, but I reserve the right to gripe when the dice are spectacularly unkind, so won't claim a 10…. ;-)

10. It's toy soldiers.

I'm there to enjoy the game, the company, the story.

21eRegt06 Jan 2016 4:34 p.m. PST

Really depends on how I lose. I get really frustrated when I do stupid things or forget some basic rule. If my opponent is a gentleman then I always strive to be. If he's a dick…

So as I get older and grumpier, I suppose I'm down to a 6 or 7.

Tony S06 Jan 2016 5:12 p.m. PST

I, and everyone else at my club are all very good sports. A ten for all of us!

I think it is telling, that when we old farts reminisce about games gone past, we remember the mighty fights, the heroic attacks, the indomitable defenses, the brilliant strategies…and then we completely fail to remember exactly who won or lost!

Like Dentatus said – the game, the company, the story. 100% agree.

53Punisher06 Jan 2016 5:20 p.m. PST

10. It's only a game.

d effinger06 Jan 2016 5:29 p.m. PST

9. I lose a lot so I have mastered the way to be a good loser.

AussieAndy06 Jan 2016 5:49 p.m. PST

10. Umm, it's a game. I have come across folk that take the whole thing way too seriously, but they seem to be fairly few in number, so relatively easy to avoid.

Sundance06 Jan 2016 6:14 p.m. PST

Between an 8 and a 9.5. I would rather lose a nail-biter, than win a landslide.

7+ over the years I've lost more than I have won (LOTS of draws too)

I occasionally moan about my luck in mid game, but then I get used to the idea that win or lose, I must enjoy the game for itself. By the final curtain, I've re-achieved relative graciousness.

I've had to be gracious as it's a genetic trait in my family that when you need to roll anything but a 1, we roll 1's. And I've lost as many or more games than I've won. It's always been the time around the table with friends that matters most.

Narratio07 Jan 2016 12:48 a.m. PST

An 8

Green Tiger07 Jan 2016 2:28 a.m. PST

10 – or I'd have stopped playing by now

COL Scott ret07 Jan 2016 2:55 a.m. PST

It depends who I am playing with. Mostly I play with Scouts I am the leader and we do an annual game night- with them a 10.

Some times mid game with more competative gamers I have to remind myself that these Soldiers do not bleed to pay for my mistakes. By the end I am always congratulative to my opponent – 7.5 or so in total for this scenario.

It is nice to see mostly good sports- though perhaps those who aren't would answer.
