Quick question…
Does anyone make Anti-Elephant Wagons in 28mm?
I see several 15mm examples out there, such as this one:

But has anyone done one in 28mm? My work in progress Republican Romans are in need of a couple! ;-)

I don't think so.

If scratch-building, though, one could look at the Irregular miniatures wagons, the parts are quite cheap. Also Front Rank make some very nice wagons and a lovely oxen.

I was racking my little grey cells but like Simon could not think of any in 28mm. As usual he makes some good suggestions.

If you don't mind a little scratch building, maybe mimic Xyston's product using 4Ground MDF wagons and Renedra plastic wicker work. I think someone also makes wicker fencing in metal. 4Ground provides metal oxen I think. Victrix or Agema plastic Romans could be used as crew.

Good luck

Hi Garry, The wicker is a great idea- using that I reckon they could easily be scratchbuilt. I might even have a crack at a couple! Best, Simon

That is what I thought would be the answer. Looks like I get to go the conversion route.

I do have one of those Irregular wagons in the closet somewhere. It should not be too hard to make up some bladed and flaming beams to swing in elephant faces! The only issue might be finding crewmen small enough to fit in the wagon!

Thanks for the replies.

I believe they are made by Irregular Miniatures, kings of the wagon park. It's a really neat piece; I am almost tempted to get a Camillan army, so I can have some. :-)

Ah, that's why the figure's anatomy is so "pencil" legged.

The parts to the wagon itself look nice, but nothing a person couldn't easily scratch build. Renedra make wicker fence pieces.

The figures could be replaced in this set.

There are more pictures here:

Agreed that the wagon's crew are weak sculpts. I think once everything is painted up and the figures are inside the wicker walls they'll look just fine.

The pictures here look nice:

Edit: the links don't work properly at the Irregular website. Go to Republican Romans and scroll down.

This might work

One could always swap the figures out for different crews based upon the era/army!

That Irregular one is nice!
Of course the newest wrinkle is the version illustrated by Peter Dennis in the new Osprey by Nick Sekunda.

It offers a variable view based on Roman push cart "technology."

Of course one must be reminded of the bravery of the illustrator to even attempt a reconstruction of something that was an abject failure, never was used again, and the numbers used may be a fabrication.

I made a conversion from an old Hussite wagon, that I have not yet added the wattle sides:

Now I'm pondering converting it to the impressive push tank style for grins.
