How many planes can you get on your table? I'm thinking of going with a 4'x 4' aerial map and was just wondering where the breaking point is for this scale and size of map? I don't think I'd want more than 8-10 planes on the map at one time. Thanks |

What rules? I have played a lot of CY6, which is hex-based. Most 1/200 single-engine fighters will fit in a 2" hex, but most 2-engine fighters will need 3" hexes, most 2-engine bombers will need 4" hexes, and the big 4-engine bombers have 6"+ wingspans. With 2" hexes, we can fit the entire grid on a 8'x5' table, but with 3" hexes we play on a 6'x12" table and have to figure out which hex rows to leave off for the scenario. Fortunately many CY6 scenarios can be played on a smaller board, but I wouldn't use 4'x4' unless I was playing with 1/300 planes on small hexes (1.5" maybe?). - Ix |

Yup, CY6 rules Thank Yellow Admiral. Looks like 1/300 for me as my table isn't going to be that big |

Even in 1/300th you'll find some planes (like four engined bombers, and even twin engined ) are surprisingly big, but as Yellow Admiral says, you should be OK with 1/300th on 4x4. |

I use 1/285 Raiden models on different hex grids depending on which planes I'm using. For a quick game I use only single engined fighters on a 1" hex grid on a small 48" x 30" table and have loads of space. Having said that I'd love to play on a 3 or 4" gird to make the whole game look better. I'd actually not recommend using models larger than 1/285 for space reasons, even though 1/200 models look great. |
