So Sisco is generaly ranked low among star treks captains.

While every body agrees that Either Kirk or Picrad is best(picard usualy wins in polls by a slight margin)
Sisco can only draw comfort that he usualy beats Archer With Janeway beating him.

But some how this winey, mentaly unsteable guy beat the biggest enemy the Federation ever have seen, jugeling the diplomatic, military and civilian stuff.

Is it just me or does it feel like he simnply shouldn't have been able to do it, his character with all this flaws should not have been able to beat the Dominion.

He never came across to me as unstable. Emotional but not unstable.

IMHO, DS9 at it's best is the best Trek has been. It just wasn't consistent enough though, and most episodes aren't all that great.

You forget that Sisko was also the Emissary, that has to count for a lot right there. I also agree with McWong, I don't think he was Unstable. At the beginning he was just coming to terms with his wife's death and being a solo parent. I always thought the relationship between Sisko and Jake was one of the best features of DS9. As a disclaimer, I am a great fan of DS9, at least for most of it.

Well once he grew is moustache and goatee in, he was no longer Cmdr. Sisko, but Cmdr. Hawk, a big plus IMHO. The only problems with DS9 were the Jake and Nog episodes and by extension, about every 4th episode was a wacky Ferengi episode.

Archer really did not get much of a chance as the series was really short lived. Sisko blamed Picard for the death of his wife, which I thought was a defect of his character given the knowledge he would have had on the borg.

IMO, Picard was probably the best leader, Kirk the best improviser, Sisko the best ambassador.

I'm also a great fan of DS9 i just think Sisco was the worst character in the series.

As a huge fan of DS9, I've always liked the supporting officers much more than Sisco. I think that what lacks in Sisco's character is made up for by O'Brien, Dr. Bashir, Colonel Kira, Odo, and, my favorite, Garak. For Star Trek TV listing, I'd say: DS9, Voyager, Next Gen, OS and TAS. For best "Captains" : Kirk, Janeway, Picard, Archer, and then Sisco.

JimSelzer03 Jan 2016 10:26 p.m. PST

in my way of thinking one needs a ship to be a "Captain" and the Defiant does not count. Sisko is a base commander not a ship's captain

Deep Space Nine was the dullest Trek for me. Every time I tuned in, it seemed that nothing ever happened, so I didn't watch very many episodes. As for Sisko, I remember what he looked like and that he had a son, and that's about it.

I would rank the captains Janeway, Kirk, Picard, Archer.

chromedog03 Jan 2016 11:04 p.m. PST

Sisko.

The other captains didn't rate.

I never liked Kirk, Picard was always surrendering, Archer was cardboard cutout man and janeway boring as bat guano.

Mako1104 Jan 2016 12:46 a.m. PST

Kirk was the best.

Picard was a wimp.

MacrossMartin04 Jan 2016 3:18 a.m. PST

Mako, you seen 'First Contact'?

Picard with a tommy gun, eagerly blasting lead into Borg at close range. Not too wimpy.

Sisko had the worst assignment of the lot. Take an old, abandoned Cardassian station, orbiting a planet that's been gutted of resources, ruled by a religious elite who don't want you there, become the voice-piece for a race of obnoxiously superior trans-dimensional beings, and, without appropriate promotion to Admiral or even Commodore, co-ordinate the largest and most important war the Federation has ever fought, to ensure its survival. Oh, and while you're at it – look after your kid.

Kirk would have been running up trees, gibbering. Look how well he looked after his offspring…!

Only Warlock04 Jan 2016 4:40 a.m. PST

Kirk, Sisko, Picard, Archer, Cartoon Kirk, New Kirk, Garth of Izar, Janeway.

In that order.

wminsing04 Jan 2016 7:26 a.m. PST

Yep, I like Only Warlock's order. Loved DS9, far and away the best Trek series, and I though Sisko was far and away the most interesting and human of the 'guy in charge' characters.

But some how this winey, mentaly unsteable guy

Also this probably describes about half of the major military geniuses humanity has managed to produce.

I enjoyed DS9 though missed a lot of it; I'd agree Sisko had a real mess of a command but made a go of it. Never had a problem with the character, probably liked him more than Kirk or Picard thinking about it.

Tiberius05 Jan 2016 12:16 a.m. PST

I prefer DS9 to the other series
