We played the Bloody Buron scenario over a couple of days as a way of ringing out the old year. I'm posting the AAR on my blog, but almost all the toys and set up were Phong's, fielding for the first time his newly minted Commonwealth battalion and support armour in his palatial basement gaming emporium.
The scenario was written by Paddy Green and Richard de Ferrars for the Battlefront WWII rule set, and is part of their excellent Blood and Honour series. I had played this scenario many years ago and was eager to try it again. It is based on the attack by The Highland Infantry of Canada to recapture Buron, given up without a fight a month earlier after being taken by the North Novas on DDay+2.

Here's the link to the AAR:

Bill this is just marvelous…A belated Christmas treat to feast our eyes on…

Apart from the obvious beauty of the table and minis it's one of the best AAR's I've read in quite some time.

I'll have to check out your earlier effort of the same scenario.

Thanks very much for posting and Happy New Year

Excellent

Thanks, War Panda, for that. As I say, minis were mostly my gaming partner Phong's as was the set up, but it was a fun scenario to write up.

Nice looking game a fun write up. I have to admit, I followed the link just to see "his palatial basement gaming emporium"

Kudos Bill, very impressive. As a Canadian nice to see a report like that of the struggle for Bloody Buron.

Tough row to hoe.
See why they thought to use Strategic bombing in a tactical role. Would seem loading up with smoke and choosing one breach point on the far right flank, as the defences were linear here, might have a slight chance. As I see you did in a previous game. Very Kursk like.

Yes, tough row as you say. General consensus seems to be concentration on one or the other of the flanks, preferably right as there are no AT ditches here and no known minefields, so you got that one right! But it still would have been a slog.

Beautiful as always, Bill! And probably your flattest-ever table! :)

Bill Slavin07 Jan 2016 12:51 p.m. PST

So true. Phong's table, of course, not mine this time, but there is a slight rise on the east side!!
