We tried out our first Blucher game using my new 1815 Paper Napoleonics today and were very pleased with the results. It was just a non-historical pick-up scenario pitting two French Corps and a cavalry corps against one Prussian corps and several divisions of British and Allies.
This is the game after 1 turn. Out of the picture to the right are some more Prussians and the French heavy cavalry. The Prussians and British established a defensive position and let the French come to them. Which they were perfectly willing to do!
A nasty fight erupted in the center. The first line of French brigades were hurt badly and fell back, although they managed to eliminate two of the Prussian artillery units. Meanwhile the French II Corps drove the British off the hill with heavy casualties, but couldn't take advantage of their success. Eventually the French fell back in the center, sacrificing their heavy cavalry to cover the retreat.
Casualties mounted on both sides and the battle slowed as neither side had the strength to launch a knock-out blow. Finally the French reached their break point and withdrew. Victory to the Allies! It was a really good game and we like the way it flows. The command system causes increasing friction as the formations become disrupted and throwing fresh troops in at the proper moment can have a huge effect. We were very pleased at how the paper miniatures look, too! |

Looks great Scott. I prefer figures, but I'd never turn my nose up at good paper figures. I'd play at this table in a heartbeat! These look good, but I think they might stand out even better on bases of a lighter green. |

The advantages of Paper is portability, easy storage and you can always print out more. Disadvantage is the loss of the art of painting. Best to use both-you can try out new rules quicker with paper then plan a Grand Battle with your collection. |

Ram, the bases are flocked to match my own grass mats. This game was played at a local game store where their mats had faded to a very light green, which makes my bases look very dark. Bashy, I hope to start selling these in a month or so. I'm doing sets for the Hundred Days campaign and I have the graphics for the French and Prussians done. I'm working on the British and Allies now and wow are there a lot of different uniforms! :) |

That looks great, and carrying those minis around would not strain my lower back! |

Hi Scott, they look really great. Are the British already ready? |

Scott, My main question would be how you stop them being crushed when in transit? They look great but the idea of downward pressure is a concern. |

Do you normally store things on top of your miniatures? I would be as worried if not more about my regular painted miniatures than I would about paper ones, nothing should touch either in transit as far as I'm concerned. |

Paperbattles: The French and Prussians are done and I'm working on the British now. But wow there are a lot of different uniforms with all the allies! The release date is probably going to be pushed back into February :( Sorry! Trajanus: The method of construction has you fold the front over to glue to the back so you get a double thickness of cardstock with a layer of glue in between. This makes then surprisingly strong. I have mine glued to 1/8" MDF board stands and I am stacking them three layers high in a plastic box with no problem at all. |

Thanks Scott, You answered my question and gave my response to xccamx at the same time. The point being, no I don't put metal on top of metal but it seemed to me to miss a trick if you ended up using the same number of storage boxes for something that weighs a lot less! |
