I almost jumped for joy when Dream Pod 9 announced that they're (finally) releasing the fleet scale fighters for Lightning Strike that were teased many years back. They're now up at their online store and DP9 have said that we might see EXO armours in the new scale, perhaps some ships and there's even talk about an updated ruleset (even though I don't think that's needed. Just sort out balance).

Here's their statement in full (from FB):

"We plan on keeping the Jovian Chronicles miniatures in production for the next few months to gage interest in the new Fleet Scale fighter squad packs and possible future packs. Our 3D Modeler, Tony, had some free time and did up 2 test Fleet Scale Exo Armors of the Pathfinder and Hector for the JC faction.

We took a photo of the Jovian Chronicles Ships and new Fleet Scale Fighter Squads and one of the full size Exo Armors in front a ruler. Then we did a test with Photoshop adding the small Pathfinder and Hector 3D Models into the photo and sized them to be 15mm tall to see how they would look. This test allowed us to see that the guns would be to thin to cast properly and will need to be thicked up a bit and some of the gaps and undercuts filled in. Tony will us this test to update the models and know what works best in future models.

If we get enough interest in the fleet scale fighters there will be fleet scale exos in the future and maybe a few new spaceships as well. Another thing we'll look at is a new rule set, to work with the new fleet scale squads.

Show us your support for Jovian Chronicles with a purchase of the new Fleet Scale Fighter Squad Packs if you want to see more in the future."

Here's a picture of the fighters:

For more about the game take a look at the recent review over at Delta Vector, he pretty much hits the nail on the head in that it's an excellent game that never received the support it deserves: link

Photoshopped concept for fleet scale exos are on the DP9 forums too.

I'd rather a promise for more regular fighters, but I'll probably buy in anyway. Rather like the Wraiths.

Just through the 4th; warm up the card!

Oh, gag. Chibi! Thank goodness I'll be well south of $100 USD!

It'd be really cool if they did more of the ones that look like dedicated space mechs – the Fury, Typhoon, Sakura, Dragonstriker. I tried to Shapeways up something similar once, but of course they were a bit fragile…

@TheBeast – since Lightning Strike/Jovian Chronicles is basically Gundam don't expect much in ways of fighters (although they definitely have their place in the setting!). However if you don't like the mecha you could easily just proxy them with fighters from GZG or Bergstrom. Some rules, like clambing on to ship hulls, might feel a little weird, but that doesn't come upp all that often anyway. :)

@Deltapax – I agree. My favourite design is the Syreen. It's just clean and cool and very space looking! I was lucky enough to be able to grab one of the old 1/87 scale models of it from eBay a few years back that I intend to build simply as a modelling project rather than for gaming.

Appreciate the pointers, but I pretty much knew already. ;->=

I really wish that they'd release more of the ships, the newer ones from the Fleet Books.

I have enough of the standard-scale mecha that I'm not sure I'd buy any of the fleet-scale.

Really cool news!

DP9 just published a new pic on FB with all four of the upcoming fleet scale EXO armors! These look pretty sweet if you ask me!

Oh, damn. Might have to succumb and buy the mini-fighters. They're still out of scale with the ships, but not like the existing minis.

I have a whole setup planned out, with lots of proxies ID'd for various space suits and exosuits.

Smaller miniatures means bigger battles on the table, there's going to be a huge mech fight coming from this.

They're already up for pre-order on the DP9 webstore. Shipping in March.

I think I might try experimenting with magnets so I can switch between three to a stand or single EXOs. Using them solo would make it a lot cheaper to get a proper fleet together as well as gelling with the current rules. Robert has hinted at an updated rulset though.
