I have been very busy the last two years and have only had time to paint about 30 miniatures, despite the fact that I have had a number of projects that I have wanted to start. I know that I will continue to be very busy at least until the end of June. So in order to "force" myself to make time for my hobby (which I really do love) I joined the Oklahoma Historical Modelers Society last night.

Before joining, I let the members know that I mainly work with 28mm figures and they said that that would be fine. The group meets twice a month and devotes some of its meetings to working on projects. I am hoping that by attending these meetings it will force me to start devoting a little more time to working on some of the projects that I have been putting off.

How many of you have also joined clubs in order to force yourself to make time for the hobby that you love?

Well every time I go to club I want to start on another period/scale/set of rules :)

I would try to set up your painting so that you can get something done in a 15 minute chunk of time. Instead of hitting some other form of relaxation, get that 15 minute chunk done. It has to feel like fun, though, not a reminder of all the projects you haven't started yet :)

Good luck

Sometimes I will schedule a painting day instead of a game day. We get together and chat about the hobby and things and actually get a bit of work done.

This kind of strikes me as ironic. If one loves it why would one have to force oneself to do it?

I've taken a different approach to my gaming. I don't force myself to do anything hobby-wise. If I don't feel like doing it, I don't. I just move onto something that I want to do.

Ive got a buddy that comes over just about once a week to paint for a couple of hours. I find that having someone else painting helps me to get fired up to paint.

Chuck05,

That worked for me as well for a couple of months. That's how I was able to complete those 30 miniatures that I mentioned. I am hoping that in about 6 months from now that I can get back to that schedule of painting with my friends. In the meantime, I am hoping that these club nights will give me a little time to commit to painting.

Kevin, Oddly enough my group just had a painting day. Smoked pork. Fried chicken. Beer. Soda. Lots of work done and as an aside we hammered out a schedule for campaigns and "big games". Lot of fun… Jokes and natural rivalry makes you paint.
