Hi all, happy new year to you and yours. So the new years resolution is to paint up all those projects that have been lying hidden away in the basement for so long, and one of the first is MIR. Can anyone suggest were I might get shield transfers for these, I have looked on the LBS and VVV store pages and found nothing, so if anyone has any suggestions please fire away. OH YEAH, the figures/minis are 15mm . Thanks in advance, Dave.

Dave,
I don't think there is a dedicated 15mm range for MIR. However I have seen an Essex 15mm MIR army where the shield transfers used ,I think were from the VVV Late Roman range. They looked quite effective.

Hi John, sorry for taking so long to thank you for your reply, I had kind of given up on anyone knowing the answer so had stop checking the post, so thank you for your feed back. I had thought of using Late Roman shield transfers for them but from what I can gather the patterns were of a different style. My plan is now to paint the minis/figures but leave them unbased, I will then wait and see what West Wind come up with for their Middle Romans when they release them. Thanks again for your input, best wishes, Dave.

Hi Dave,
I can see what you mean,I always had the impression that the MIR Legionary designs were an evolution of the earlier Early Imperial Roman shields. At least late 2nd, early 3rd century. As there would be a crossover, in theory you could use both type of designs?

Hi John, yeah it is a cross over of a kind, however although the actual pattern on the shield in some cases is like an evolution of the EIR patterns the shield shape has changed to one more like the LIR style, so the EIR transfers won't fit. I have sent for a few sheets from VVV to see if I can cut them to size, but I'm not holding my breath. Once again thanks for your help, all the best, Dave.

Hi Dave,

I just remembered looking at the VVV site my mate used the Praetorian/auxiliary transfers, the shields were oval. I don't think LIR would work as their shields are more rectangular.
If Westwind issue their range, I would except that LBMS might downsize their existing transfers and save you a lot of effort!
