Author W.C. Jameson, in his new book "Amelia Earhart: Beyond the Grave," claims the great female aviator who disappeared in 1937 was actually on a secret spying mission authorized by Franklin D. Roosevelt when she vanished.Jameson claims to have found evidence showing Earhart's plane was equipped with cameras to record Japanese military installations in the Pacific Ocean when it lost contact in the Marshall Islands. The author writes that Earhart and her co-pilot Fred Noonan were shot down or landed in Japanese territory and held prisoner… link |

I do love the "secret spying mission" claims, hard to keep things secret when blasting out press releases constantly… |

Neither (the spying or the Japanese prisoner) are new theories. There were supposedly eyewitnesses (Allied, I believe) who claimed they saw her in a prison camp during the war, IIRC. |

Amelia Earhart is like Bigfoot, many claim to have seen her but there is no hard evidence. And when run down many of those "eyewitnesses" turn out to either never had said they saw her themselves or to have never existed. |

Funny… she didn't look even slightly Japanese. |

I'm a advocate of the easy answer in this case. The plane got lost and crashed into the sea … end of story. Even if they made it to a small island. They just were not found in time. |

Good fodder for a work of fiction, or (dare I say it) a game scenario. Ron |

I'm sure it was her I heard rummaging through my food stocks on my last overnight camping trip – and didn't she always have trouble buying shoes to fit. |

I ask you this: have the two ever been seen in the same room together? |

Saw a great documentary about this….on PBS a few months ago. She made it to gardener island, landed her plane near by a shipwreck nearby half submerged and known about…some girl was getting her radio transmissions …. And they died on the island. A skull and bones were found matching a women of European ancestry…. Something like that was the gestalt of the story. Was very good. |
