A question to all of you who have one or more cats residing in your home. Is tabletop wargaming compatible with your feline companion? (a) Yes, we get along very well. The cat is not a problem. (b) Sometimes the cat gets in the way. (c) No. The family cat is incompatible with my enjoyment of the hobby. (d) _____________________________

I was at a guys house gaming one time, his kat got up on the table and knocked over my figs, I picked up the kat and got it off the table, he told me not to touch his kat, I picked up my figures and left – never gaming with him again. |

I play with friends who have cat allergies. The cats aren't allowed in the game room; the door stays shut. |

Makes you wonder why wargaming with William Britain's spring loaded cannon, in the style of H.G. Wells, ever went away! Actually, my cat is surprisingly well behaved. Of course, I don't leave games out over night. Grelber |

Two cats. Twice the opportunity. Both have the discussion who gets the walk time on the game table. One tends to like the white coats Austria, the other prefers the red of British. The green coats of Russia seem to be avoided…. or not seen. But trees are their favorite rough edge for the neck scratch. So A is the call. |

Only issue I have is cat hair appearing on miniatures at inconvenient times |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 30 Dec 2015 7:50 p.m. PST |
My cat is new to our home. I haven't game-tested him yet. I did clear some scenery off a shelf with the intent of putting miniatures there, he was occupying that space wirhin minutes. I politely asked him to get off my shelf, and he complied. He is a REALLY good cat. |

D I have several "battle damaged" flags due to one of our cats chewing on them a few years back. B I normally game at a friend's 2 bedroom apartment. His cat will occasionally jump up on the table, but is usually pretty good at staying off of it. He keeps his gaming table in the extra bedroom that he can close off, but we seldom need to do that. |

A The cats are the true rulers in my house. I am fortunate that they let me play. Tommy loves games but more importantly she respects the game. She loves to watch but doesn't mess with the game. Cooper and Ollie, on the other hand . . . |

Our cats don't go on the table, so no fuss. They do come up for pets though. |

A. They share their tables with me. I see it as random events across the battlefield. |

No problems other then the occasional cat hair when I'm painting miniatures. |

Have had to fix many a broken spear or turret on my painting table!!!! One of my cats loves to see what I'm up to close up and help(!) me! She's very cute though :-) |

Dog man myself. She's too short to get on the table, though would probably interfere if/when we play on the floor. Likes lots of attention. Sister has cats, and I won't let them near my stuff. |

A – although we've had the odd table visit over the years. All in all, if I had to keep just one thing, I'd dump all the figures and keep the cats. |

Cats and Wargames generally don't mix, particularly that one game of Third Reich where the cat decided to rearrange the eastern front. |

A/B Two cats, mostly the are well behaved, only once has one decided to lie on the table when we were playing. Luckily it was on a flank both of us had mostly refused. he was evicted when it became necessary to me figures that end of the table. Occasionally some cat lure results in damage to figures left out overnight. |

I suppose C, but it really isnīt a problem. My game room is strictly off limits to all three of my cats. The only problem is when the cats are outside and I have the window open. |

Our cat has tried once to get onto my table during a wargame … but when she discovered that there was nowhere to sit down and nothing to eat, she lost interest and has never tried again. |

One of my cats ate a 6mm armor vehicle. It took two years to pay off the vet bills. |

Not a cat person. SWMBO is, though. The cat is trained to not go on to the tables, counters, and plants (including Christmas tree). Furniture, mantle piece, shelves, no problem, laps, she roams free. But no problems with her in the gaming area, so no problem. She also leaves the miniature display case alone, which is odd, since we didn't get that until long after she was trained. |
redbanner4145 | 31 Dec 2015 6:47 a.m. PST |
While the game room is off limits the cats often try to help me paint. They get rewarded with a dab of paint on the end of their noses. Very colorful kitties. |

A – One cat knows gaming table is "no cat zone". Knowing and doing are two different things. Never attempted to get on the painting table. I do have my figures stored on open shelves and did have some issues until I put up barriers in front of the lowest shelves. On a side note – Children. In my gaming room I put my collection on the lowest shelf "So the kids could get at them". I never had to watch other people's children while there. |

Eight cats two dogs, and apart from the hair problem (as stated) and the odd truncated flag pole not really a problem, but as also stated if something had to go it wouldn't be the animals! Cheers Roger. |
Cosmic Reset | 31 Dec 2015 7:59 a.m. PST |
Currently three cats, but none of them show much interest in my stuff. Every once in awhile, I'll notice a tree somewhat defoliated, and one time a plastic fig disappeared, when working on the dining room table. But in 20 years of cats and gaming, incidents are rare. |
Ceterman | 31 Dec 2015 8:58 a.m. PST |
We game in my basement. None of our 4 cats are allowed down there. So no problem. I would imagine Moritz & PK would be a terror to the troops. Neikeo & Tommy, not so much. Peter board2deathterrain.com |
Katwerks | 31 Dec 2015 1:19 p.m. PST |
My cat Morris would personally inspect any miniatures and painting commissions that I received un the mail. I would place them on the table and he would look over them. |

Weasel | 01 Jan 2016 1:43 p.m. PST |
I should add, back when we used to play large board games on the floor, our chubby cat would find the pile of dice and nest on them, then be very dismayed when we moved her. |

A. However, when I used to paint at our kitchen table, sometimes I'd suddenly see the back of our cat's head, blocking my line of vision after her jumping into my lap unexpectedly. Those are some beautiful cats in those photos, by the way. |

Other animals? Parrots making caustic comments, for example?. My sister had a horse so curious that he would hang his head over your shoulder to see what you were doing. Very annoying.Couldn't get in the house, though,so no problem with gaming. |

John the Greater | 05 Jan 2016 9:23 a.m. PST |
Two cats, no problem. One cat hides whenever anyone is at the house, so you can imagine her horror at wargamers! The other cat is content to watch from a chair and make helpful observations and suggestions. I believe that "meew" is Cat for "give them cold steel!". |
Old Contemptibles | 05 Jan 2016 4:43 p.m. PST |
My cat use to jump up on the table in the middle of the game. She wanted all the attention. But she didn't disturb anything. Everyone loved her. She was a sweet fun little tuxedo kitty. When she passed on, it was like loosing a child. The whole club mourned her loss. Our official club mascot. |
