im looking for a fun, fast play AWI game for smaller battles. I use black powder for the bigger ones. from what I've seen Sharp practice has a little more flavor than Muskets and Tomahawks, but ive never tried either and could easily be missing something.

my main requirements are a lighter game that moves quick, but still with a period feel and some tactical depth, command and control, a few surprises, etc. I also like a well written rule book that's easy to follow. finally, my figures are mostly element based with 4 figs per base, so some flexibility there would be a bonus, but im not above improvising.

both games look good, so who likes which and why! and ill take any new suggestions too.

I have been using SP for AWI, F&i and even 2nd Seminole War for years now. I use figures on bases of 1,2,3 &4 figures with no issues. I really like the toolbox approach to SP. I played some straight up historical games and some with a lot of role play elements. The combat and morale system is just a lot more realistic than what I seen with M&t also.

I like both, but the last few M & T games I have played have been so fun I might prefer that a bit more now.

Can't say I tried SP but I find M&T fun. I recommend it.

I have read both rule-sets but only played M&T. It has become a group favorite just because of all the flavor.

Interesting that you should ask this as I was thinking of a smaller set of rules as well.
If there are any reviews of both i would be quite interested to read them.
