Thinking about a mini campaign, set on the frontier of the Roman Empire. Players would be the equivalent of tribunes or a legionary legate, or a barbarian minor chieftain, or the Persian equivalent ( what were their military lieutenants called?). What would be suggested for campaign rules, and tactical game rules? 1. The tactical forces would scale to a Roman cohort or numerus as the basic tactical unit, perhaps 4 to six WRG/ DBx stands in strength, possibly options for understrength units in the campaign. Legionary tribunes might only have 3 to 6 infantry units, and small cavalry or auxilia contingent. 2 With small forces, some detail in command/control, combat and morale would still fit into a short game. It doesn't have to be "fast play". Commanders personality traits might feature in the campaign or combat. 3. Scouting expeditions, raids, pursuits, and ambushes would be normal scenarios,, rather than balanced set battles. The weaker side might be pressed just to escape destruction. 4. Historical immersion would be a desired goal of the game. |

…Soviet manned lunar program (part 1) "C.S. Lewis once wrote that the devil's greatest trick was convincing the world that he did not exist. Soviet officials and propagandists pulled off a similar feat in the 1970s when they convinced many in the Western press and public that the country had never intended to land a man on the Moon or to beat the Americans there. That myth lasted nearly 20 years, repeated countless times in the popular press, even by such luminaries as anchorman Walter Cronkite. Active Soviet disinformation, coupled with a lack of direct information on the existence of the Soviet lunar program, has distorted our understanding of the Moon race. Many histories of this period have barely acknowledged the existence of a vigorous Soviet lunar program. Even those that have acknowledged it have been unable to compare it to Apollo except in a superficial sense. Until recently, nobody has been able to compare the overall timelines of both superpower projects. The Central Intelligence Agency's analysts were not fooled by the Soviet disinformation campaign. They tracked the development of the Soviet lunar program virtually from its start. And although they occasionally made inaccurate estimates as to the technical details of the Soviet manned lunar program, they were surprisingly accurate about its schedule and whether it could beat the Americans to the Moon. They provided this information to American decision makers, both in the White House and NASA…" Full text here link Part 2 here… link Amicalement Armand |
