I will be visiting Sydney in a couple of weeks. I will be confined to the CBD. What are the best bookshops -- not necessarily military bookshops -- but one with a good collection of non-mainstream books. |

Yep, both are worth a visit. Abbey's has a reasonable mil history section (for a nain street bookstore). Abbey's upstairs is the Galaxy bookshop, which used to be a specialist sci fi and fantasy bookstore. It's over priced and has way too much paranormal romance. Kino's has a far better range of sf and fantasy, plus a very large selection of graphic novels and genre books. Better prices than Galaxy, but both are over priced imho. |

Sadly, the days of musty old second hand bookshops down lower Pitt and George Streets towards the station are long gone. I found some absolute treasures there in the 1970s. You could also try Berkelouws and Gleebooks if you're happy to take a couple of short cab rides. |
