"Now for wrath, now for ruin, and a red nightfall!" The Rohirrim. I honestly can think of none that appeal anywhere near as much. And, yes, I have a (small) Rohirrim army for Warmaster/Bo5A.
All are from Copplestone Casting's excellent 10mm fantasy line. |

skippy0001 the Doomfarers and sequel book were my favorite fantasy books next to the LOTR. I always thought of the Rohirrim more like horse mounted Vikings than Normans. |

Doomfarers of Coramonde-Wizard summons a squad and M113 to fight a dragon and rescue a infant from Hell. I loved that book and the sequel to it! I'm a huge fan of Rohan and of Arnor of old. I've pictured Rohan as more of a blend between Viking and Norman. Arnor I picture as more closer to Norman or 1st crusader army. Gondor I've always looked at as Byzantine. |

The Legions of Shin-shan. From Glen Cook's Dread Empire series. |
Black Cavalier | 30 Dec 2015 9:15 a.m. PST |
Fantasy Viking. Mainly because it's the only fully fleshed out human army I have. |
PrivateSnafu | 30 Dec 2015 9:55 a.m. PST |
My memory is a bit vague here but there is a rag-tag army of criminals and cast offs guarding a frontier in one of the Shannara stories. I always fancied and cheered for them. Border Legion perhaps? its been a few decades. Ash's and Duke Henry's forces in Army of Darkness are always a favorite as well. |

I have a Romano-British army I use for fantasy humans. Love the late roman helmet and the stylized shields. |

I think of Tekumel as Aztecs in space. The ones done by Eureka are really, really nice. |
waaslandwarrior | 31 Dec 2015 3:20 p.m. PST |
Ancient Greek Amazons, a Conan-type barbarian army and ofcourse the Rohirim! A (Far) Harad Army is also a favorite of me. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 02 Jan 2016 1:31 p.m. PST |
Rohirrim as Normans? Horrors! Tolkien detested all things French(except the wine),and especially pretentiousness of Brits who prided themselves on their Norman ancestry--"came over with the Conqueror, don't you know". Hence the Sackville-Bagginses. They're Anglo-Saxons,as demonstrated by the names and language, some of which is pure Mercian, rather than West Saxon. And their northern "ancestors" are based on Goths--some of the names are Gothic. Admittedly, the horses throw things off a bit,but as T.A.Shippey points out, there is the odd fact that several Old English words for colors are those used for horse colors. Speaking of horses--Hamster,if you don't like painting horses,do what I do--cheat! Brown dry brush over black primer. Lighter color? Burnt Sienna over the brown. Cheap, fast, and nasty. |

Never collected a human army for fantasy as such, but some of my historicals have been pressed into service. My 15mm Late Republican Romans even have a 28mm Confused General (like the one on the DBA cover) to act as a God in Hordes of the Things. |
