Just posted my (rather long) review of Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish. The long and short of it is that Otherworld is a competent system with a lot of room for expansion. The rules are vaguely reminiscent of Games Workshop rule sets, yet the game feels a bit more like an toolbox for fantasy adventures with miniatures and less like a competitive game (although it could be played either way). Let me know what you think! |

Nice detailed review. I agree with your assessment that finding helpful overviews of the rule mechanics has been difficult. I've been interested but hesitant to pick up the Otherworld Rules due to this lack of info, but with your review and reviews from other recent blogs, I might have to take the plunge. I think it would also be helpful if you could post your review in the Fantasy Adventure section on the Lead Adventure Forum. link (If you've posted it there already I didn't see it.) |

Thanks for the comments. I do like it quite a bit. I think with a little more focus (something that can be provided by a gamemaster or a decent campaign system) it will really be a terrific game. The flexibility is definitely a strong suit as it allows you to build any kind of warband imaginable. For example, you can take a humble Townsfolk minion, boost him to a Henchman and he can become the party's favorite torchbearer (I'd give him Inspirational so the party is braver when close to the torchbearer), a heroic doxy (who can Charm enemy minions), an aspiring Squire (with Follower so he activates whenever his mentor activates), a hearty scout from the woods (with Move Silently so he can scout ahead), an apprentice thief (with Pickpocket, Set Traps and/or Treasure Hunter). None of these are listed as such in the minion chapter, but all (and more besides) are possible using the henchmen rules using the same entry for "Townsfolk". It really does feel as if the sky is the limit. |

"Well, at first it was difficult to find out. Extremely difficult. In fact, so much so that I would level the charge at Otherworld Miniatures for poorly handling their own game. I can agree with that! Thank you for the review. I have been interested in this from the get-go, but the Warhammery combat mechanic (exacerbated by an all-too tiresome adherence to JUST d6's) is disappointing to say the least. |

I have not played this game, but I will say that the miniatures that Otherworld makes are AMAZING! Whole range done as a homage to classic Dungeons & Dragons. The adventurer boxed sets are some of the best adventurer minis I've ever seen! Range is expensive but looks incredible! |
