I am thinking about getting some 15mm figures for doing some company level battles of this war. (all of my other WWII stuff is 15mm). I have been researching this for a few days now, and I could use some advice. I am thinking of using the Jaakari winter inf. packs from BF for the Finns, the BF Strelkovi winter figures for the Russians, adding some MG and mortar packs for both side too. Soviet armor would mainly be T-26's and BT-5's. The Finns had no armor available except for the odd captured Russian tank (maybe). Does it sound like I'm on the right track with this? Any input would be appreciated.

You might be better off posting to WWII board, since Winter War took place during WWII and not during the Interwar period.

As for support weapons, both sides had on battalion level MG company and mortar platoon, Soviets also a small ATG platoon (2 guns). Soviets also had a few 50 mm mortars and MGs on company level.

As for the Finnish armour, there was a bunch of obsolete FT-17 tanks that did not really see action, as well as a company of Vickers 6-ton tanks with local modifications. However, the latter were only ready for action in February, and their first encounter with the enemy with quite badly.

There was quite a lot of Soviet armour captured during the war, but they did not see action in Finnish hands until summer 1941.

Thanks Griefbringer. I have added my post to the WW2 discussion board per your suggestion.

At all.

Finns used Vickers tanks bought from UK in just ONE battle at Honkaniemi and it went badly to south.

IIRC the few obsolete Renault FT-17's were bug up and used as bunkers.

Like said, in the beginning, do not use tanks on Finnish side at all and you get more realistic games.
