… with South Sudan on it?

If you're still lamenting that the schools still have SSR all over their map of Eastern Europe or the Balkans look waaaaay too homogeneous, you might be a bit behind the times.

And, no, "I have the Internet, blah, blah, blah …" is not an affirmative response.

I have a engineering survey map for a proposed set of water pipelines and they state "South Sudan" in a rather fetching Times Roman font… does that count?

I have a 1:1 scale globe that is constantly updated.

Ottoathome26 Dec 2015 7:15 a.m. PST

My maps go up to 1789. It's all downhill after that.

I have a map of Africa hanging in my office at home that still has the Belgian Congo on it. Found it rolled up in a piece of furniture at a garage sale.

My wife bought a shower curtain that has South Sudan on it. I was very impressed that the shower curtain was so up to date.

My globe dates back to the 1950s. Still showed French Indochina. I'll have to dig it out of the attic and check for South Sudan. Atlases not much better. Latest version is a Hammond two volume paperback item, including some historicals. that, I think is from about maybe 1970s.

I have a globe with Manchuko on it. I make maps for a living.

Rich Bliss26 Dec 2015 11:00 a.m. PST

My globe is only 20 years out of date. Thanks to my National Geographic subscription, I have a couple of maps with South Sudan.

I have a world atlas published in 1910. I dont think the world has changed much since then….;-)

What made the internet irrelevant all of a sudden? It's quite popular I believe …

Maps while nice to have but services like Google Earth and Wikipedia provide current info. Paper Maps may be god collector items but web sources would be more accurate on a more timely basis

Saying that I have a CD collection f all the Maps published by National Geographic since it started and up to a year or so ago plus a lot of older Historical atlases So it is easy to trace changes by comparing the old maps to the current Web sources

Depends on your use. I believe a USMC general commented on NGA's move to all digital maps by saying, "One bullet and my 'map' is now something I can throw at an enemy."

For the purposes of this question, I was only interested in physical products. If you can read the OP, I already know you have access to cartographic resources on the Internet.

I doubt it the globe is from early 50s

COL Scott ret28 Dec 2015 11:44 p.m. PST

no, neither is it a priority for me.

Bashytubits29 Dec 2015 11:10 p.m. PST

That could almost be a joke. A globe, atlas and map walk into a bar… ended with "so you know how to find your way around?"

per ardua01 Jan 2016 4:07 a.m. PST

I have the entire paper ordnance survey maps of the UK in 1:50,000 scale. I love perusing them, some are a few years out of date.

Globe? But the world is flat.

Globe? But the world is flat.

All models are wrong. Some models are useful.

I just happened to pick up a globe Thursday at Goodwill for $1.99 USD. It's the Ohio Art Zodiac Base one from,I guess, the 60s? Shows Anglo-Egyptian Sudan and French West Africa.

People collect these, you know. Is there anything they don't?
My mother's podiatrist has them in his office--very clever,as patients are always adding to his collection. But he's not getting this one.

If I give it away,it'll be to Don Manser.

He already has everything else.

Mardaddy04 Jan 2016 8:23 p.m. PST

I think the only atlas we have in the house is a 1938 Collier's atlas.

…It's awesome.

Jefthing07 Jan 2016 4:17 p.m. PST

I have my mum's Phillips School Atlas from 1941: it has Poland divided into German and Soviet occupation zones.
