I'm aiming to have the Battle of Ravenna done as a demo game, probably not this year but the next. I'moo busy with my Hastings project for Saute at present.

I'm spending a little bit of time every day working on head swaps, conversions and that sort of thing. In order to keep up some kind of momentum I'm posting all the stuff I do get done on my Gewalthaufen Blog. to be honest it's a welcome relief to painting up all those Huscarl, Thegnes, Ceorls and Milites etc.

I've started messing around with what will be Jacob Empsser's Landsknechts including baggage and vignettes (I ordered quite a lot of them when Foundry had their sale!).

Not satisfied with the number of Dopplensoldner that Foundry do, they do two but Marcus was kind enough to send me an unreleased model too, I did a couple of head swaps and a little converting by hacking off a spare's cap and adding a leather helmet/arming cap and sticking the feathered cap slung around his neck.

There are more pics and discussion on my Gewalthaufen Blog here:

Next up is prepping Gaston de Foix, Duke of Nemours Command Group.

Cheers,
Darrell.

Nice work on the conversions :-)

"Jacob Empser" was actually Jakob von Ems, a member of the large von Ems (Later von Hohenems) family which included a number of landsknecht commanders, notably Frundsberg's brother in arms Marx Sittich von Ems. (I suspect that Taylor or Oman were behind the anglicised form of the name as it never generates any hits while searching German sources)

Jakob and his brother Burkhard had leading positions among the numerous Swabian captains in French service in 1511-1512. The others included Philipp and Johann Sigmund von Freiberg, Johann Spät von Pflummern, Diebold von Stein, Johann Herter, Wolfgang von Ehingen. Famous men then but now all but forgotten. Johann Spät and both von Freibergs were killed alongside Jakob von Ems at Ravenna.

Great work! I'm working on a similar project but in 10mm.

Daniel S

Thanks for the information. I've made a note and saved it so in future it will be Jakob von Ems, who is referred to.

Do you mind if I quote the above?

Great work! I'm working on a similar project but in 10mm.

And I'd love to see the results of that! Should be spectacular as the pike blocks could be really huge!!

Darrell.

I like the conversion.

And the info on the names of captains.

I've recently been messing around with the composition for Gason de Foix, Count of Nemours (leader of the French forces during the War of the League of Cambrai) vignette.

If you're interested please pop over to my Gewalthaufen Blog for discussion on the options that I'm as yet undecided upon:
