A series of pictures I took from another visit to the National Historical Museum in Athens, Greece. A nice small museum with lots of great artifacts. link With Respect KTravlos |

That's a great looking museum KT, like the fact that the Greek government is still looking after its history even with the hard times. The flags are very intriguing and as you say some are works of art. I would love to see it first hand too, one day maybe then. Cheers and Efharisto' :) |

Thank you for sharing your experience with those of us who will probably never get to see this beautiful museum. Jeff |

Great photos! I visited them right before the Athens Olympics. I don't think they let you take photos back then. Nor do I remember there being a basement with lots of figures--must remember that if I ever get back there. The gift shop did have some of Spiros Kooumousis' 28mm Balkan War figures for sale. By the way, I think that's where the wonderfully named Lazarus Parliament met. Grelber |

My plan is to visit the War Museum as well. I have pictures from a number of other military and historical museums as well. I will slowly upload them to the blog. |

Interesting, seems quite military in nature. I'll have to check it out when I am in Athens next. Nauplion also has a small military museum, based in the first Military Academy of Greece. I stumbled across that last year. That one was staffed by soldiers serving in the army & I assume paid for thru the military budget. |

The War Museum, Averoff, and many of the local war museums are indeed staffed by the conscripts of the Greek army. Cushy postings. The museums are maintained by the military budget, but the soldiers just get paid the same 9 Euros per month, all the conscripts get. The National Historical Museum is under the Ministry of Culture. |
