In this month's Wargames Illustrated magazine (Dec. 2015, Issue 338), there's an advert for a 2-player, quick-play game coming out from Battlefront in 2016 (w/some Panthers being featured in the artwork). Called Tanks, or Tanks in a Box!, the advertisement list the FOW website for further info. So far I've not found anything on FOW's website about it, so was wondering if anyone here might have heard something about this newly advertised game system/ruleset/or maybe up-coming starter-type set for FOW? |

If I recall correctly from several months ago, this "Tanks In a Box" thing was a concept idea to be a sort of Tankers Challenge style game. It's meant to introduce "new" to FOW gamers to the basics of just plan old tank on tank fighting! So it's basic idea is to act as a hook for those who haven't yet found the FOW World! |

Vagamer63, you're spot-on with the Tankers Challenge concept if I read the advert correctly! It also mentions you pick your tank crew, and have options for a "wealth of upgrades" – would this be standard FOW detail, or anything new I wonder? |

FlyXwire, Not real sure what the types, or kind of "Upgrades" the concept may include, but my guess would be along the lines of crew morale, abilities, skill, & motivation ala FOW. Also, based on ideas the author, Phil Yates, discussed not long after version 3 of FOW was released it sounds like this "Tanker's Challenge" box may be a pre-cursor to some of the new concepts/rule changes to FOW version 4 update! I wouldn't be surprised if some of the future changes to FOW version 4 have made their initial appearance in "Team Yankee", but that is a total guess on my part! Though Phil has stated in past conversations on the Forum, that he is looking to simplify FOW in it's version 4 release. |

So its a gw style ripoff. Lets make version 4, then lets think about volume 5… |

Thanks Vagamer, and I appreciate your input. |

Judging by the Essen video, I think these are in a new, much larger scale, so more likely to be an entry into the 'Bolt Action Tank War' market than any sort of FOW feeder… Re TY being a test bed for FOW V4, Phil was rather cagey about that in his Breakthrough Assault podcasts! Basically by saying that TY was the rules vehicle he would have written with the benefit of experience and hindsight, he did kind of leave the door open for V4 along the same elegant, stripped down lines as TY…. |

NFWS, thanks for the Essen tip. Web searched and found some Essen media on the FOW site: link Such as this, that seems to show some of the Tanks game kit:
Also, at the end of this video taken at Spiel 2015 are close-ups of the Battlefront display, and their Tanks media: YouTube link A pic I snatched from the video:
