Now we know what the JJ stands for.

How could any competent movie maker blow this? Such a bad movie.

Way to go Jar Jar.

Captain Gideon17 Dec 2015 9:29 p.m. PST

So Keifer113 does this mean you didn't like the Star Wars movie?

Also please don't refer to JJ Abrams as Jar Jar that's an insult to Jar Jar Binks.

McWong7317 Dec 2015 9:31 p.m. PST

Guess you two are Prequel fans then?

Keifer11317 Dec 2015 9:31 p.m. PST

It was a bad movie.

Captain Gideon17 Dec 2015 9:35 p.m. PST

McWong73 yes I'm a fan of all of the Star Wars films.

McWong7317 Dec 2015 9:36 p.m. PST

If your an OT fan, my advice is see it again. My big problem first time I saw it was nostalgia shock, such that I missed a fair bit. Second time I paid better attention to the actual film instead of the emotional reaction to seeing Star Wars again.

And I liked it a lot more second time. Absolutely love the new characters, but we're all entitled to have our own opinion.

Captain Gideon17 Dec 2015 9:56 p.m. PST

McWong73 I'm a fan of the OT but the Prequels as well see if I see a movie and like it then I'll see it again in the theater and then most likely I'll buy it because if I like the film there's a very good chance that I'll buy it when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

From what I've seen of the trailers I do like what I saw and that's a good thing so the chances of me likeing the film is pretty good.

One of the few times that I was disappointed was back in 1989 when I saw a movie about a Giant lizard attacking New York I won't mention the name because I feel it's an insult to the Japanese Lizard.

The bottom line is that I hated that film so it does happen to me sometimes.

I can understand where Keifer113 is coming from. I enjoyed this film but did feel the last 3rd of the film just rehashed much of what had gone before. Reminded me of Star Trek: Into Darkness – started great, built up the plot and then threw it away by reusing content/themes from an earlier film.

Keifer11317 Dec 2015 10:44 p.m. PST

Norrins hits it right on the button. It was a remake of the original without the charm, character or action of the first.

The characters are incredibly flat. No one really undergoes any kind of development. They move from scene to scene with little drama or excitement.

Semi spoiler….in the OT there's the scene with the garbage compactor…Luke gets pulled under. You were like…what the hell? Is he ok? What's happening. In this one there's a scene where Rey and Finn have to deal with a monster. No tension, no drama whatsover.

Just really poorly done.

McWong7317 Dec 2015 11:20 p.m. PST

All valid opinions, and agree on th plot device that has to be taken out in the third act. But I found the new characters to be great, mostly because it was apparent that they all wanted to be there, and didn't phone in their performance (hello Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman). The way I'd put it in context for me is -

Original Trilogy: Great story, Great storytelling.

Prequels: Great story, Terrible storytelling.

SWFA: Derivative story, Great storytelling.

Like I said I came out with much the same thoughts but really loved the new cast. I ce to realise that the criticisms I had actually didn't add up to me not enjoying it a lot, and then second time just started picking up things I hadn't seen th3 first time. I'll come back to this once everyone has seen it as you could go quickly into massive spoilers.

Oh, and Han rocked, best performance from Ford in at least a decade.

I renamed it "Iguanadon"!

GINO -- Godzilla in name only.

Oh thank God, I'm not the only one that doesn't like this movie.

It was spoiled for me on 4chan, and it all sounded like a rehash of the original. But the biggest issue I have with it is the biggest spoiler that just killed it for me.

Are we allowed to bring it up here?

No spoilers for two weeks is the rule!

I've seen the movie twice already (2D and 3D) and really like it. And I actually very much appreciated how the character development is so much like the original (and with more depth of character even). Remember that in prepping the original script, Lucas spent a lot of time working with Joseph Campbell to make sure that it was *not* an original story to begin with. Star Wars properly is all about the journey of the Hero WIth A Thousand Faces. This new installment is about the next generation of heroes, and they too must go through the same journey as every hero before them. This is really good story telling of the archetype, and that archetype is the heart and soul of good Star Wars.

J.J. got it right.

Redcoat 5519 Dec 2015 1:11 p.m. PST

They can't please everyone.

I really enjoyed it and I certainly am not the easiest to please, but not everyone is looking for the same things in these movies.

Sure there are things I could complain about, but in fairness the original movies had their flaws too.

I guess I am just lucky, but fortunately for me there are probably enough people that feel the way I did for another one to come out in a few years.

BigNickR19 Dec 2015 10:20 p.m. PST

I loved the movie

StarCruiser20 Dec 2015 1:15 p.m. PST

It wasn't a BAD movie but, it wasn't a GREAT movie either.

A friend of mine nailed it when he said – "When I've watched a really good movie, I can't stop talking about it for usually several days. I don't seem to want to talk about this one so much."

I'm not sure why I didn't find it great, it just didn't quite match the old films (don't bring up the prequels).
