I am looking for a simple stand equals a platoon rule set. What is out there? I am aware that there is a light version of "Fistful of Tows." Any comments on that? Like I said, I want relatively simple. Thanks. |

Cold War Commander, sequel to Blitzkrieg Commander. |

Test of Battle (Command Decision) is very good, but probably has more "Grit" than you want. The 5Core games (Brigade Commander and Company Commander) work without a lot of detail. |

The lite version covers most of what the full rules include so is a good intro, it is also free so no need to take anyone's word – just download and read it. There is a WWII and a Modern version of the lite rules. If you are looking for a fast playing and easy set of rules that is realistic it is the best set out there. (Arty can be a bit to figure out however but plays fast once you get the knack of it). Spearhead and Modern Spearhead are simpler and still have good combat systems. The written orders (though extremely simple in play) keep many from trying it. |

Dynaman: What rules are you talking about? |

Sorry, Fistful of Tows. Had it my brain but never got to the keyboard… |

FFoT, Modern Spearhead and Cold War Commander are probably the main ones on the 'simple' side. Very simple ones would be the Pz8 modern ones. 5Core Briagde Commander has company stands, not platoons, although it does have platoon sized support stands. I play it by pushing my existing platoon stands together:) |

I've played 5Core Brigade commander (stands are companies) I also own their Company Commander. I like them, simple to play….some people don't like the level of abstraction, but if you want something that isn't too hard then you do need a certain level of abstraction. Ivan just released some optional mechanics for the series too that I need to download. |

FFT, Spearhead and Command Decision. CD is a bit heavier, FFT is very straight-forward, Spearhead is simple but does have written orders. 5core BC uses company stands but if you promise not to tell anyone, you can probably say they're platoons and it'd be just fine. The attachments are platoons (and would then become squads or single vehicles) |

@Weasel: I was thinking the same thing about BC. Man, those rules are hard to read with that background pic in the way. Thanks for the ideas everyone. |

I actually think a lot of games can probably run in one step up or down the "scale ladder" and do just fine. We ran at least one, maybe two (memory failing) games of Command Decision where we said the platoons were squads and the tanks were just that, single tanks, and it actually felt pretty good. |

We did that with Command Decision also with no problems. |

GHQ's rules (WW2 Microarmor and Modern Microarmor) are decent and are reminiscent of Mechwar '77 or Panzer '44. 1 stand = 1 platoon. I have used them with both 6mm and 15mm miniatures with no problems. I'd second a vote for BKC or CWC as well. Just getting into Command Decision so I cant comment on it. |
