Other than providing multiple poses, one way to achieve a lot more variety in the ranks is for manufacturers to provide detachable heads that are glued on to the miniatures before painting. Would you be more likely to purchase a bag of miniatures that come with a selection of several head variants that are detached from the figures? (a) Yes, I am more likely to purchase figures with detached heads. (b) Maybe. (c) No, I would not be more likely to purchase figures with detached heads. (d) ______________________ |

Definitely C unless 15mm then B. A weak B but a B. |

c. I'd prefer not to have to glue bits together. |

Definitely A I've been doing it for years with Peter Pig's 15mm figures Rangers for the FIW Finns for the Winter War Beret and Helmet swaps for Spanish Civil War US troops & HMGs with Sombrero'd crew for the Mexican Revolution |

C. It seems that detachable heads often come at the expense of the coat collar, especially if it's a standing collar. This was certainly the case with some Redoubt ACW castings wearing frock coats. |

D. I don't want to be sticking bits of figures together, and I don't want 'variety in the ranks' unless they are some sort of raggedy Irregular types. My Horse & Musket chaps in particular stand in nice straight lines, ideally in the same pose and one piece castings. |

Figures that make up rank and file should have as many bits as possible to customize Definitely A |

I really like the King's Mountain AWI figures. Not really "detachable" heads but separate heads. This great for militia, ragged Continentals, light dragoons where the regiments wore different caps, etc. No way I could have made my "Hillbilly Highlanders", militia wearing bonnets, without this option. |

I'd rather have 10 different bodies than 10 different heads on the same body. |

Had a few figures with detachable heads, but they never seem to fit properly, so I guess that's another "c". |

It depends on the scale and the genre. For 28mm sci fi or fantasy it's great, for 6mm WW2, not so much. |
