Is there any specific rule regarding bases in Frostgrave? I have looked in the rulebook, but depending on weather, lunar phase, zodiac, etc. I do not always read with good comprehension.

Here is the situation: I am working on a Wizard (WizarDecember Week 4 entry, early planning stage) that would work better on a 40mm round base than a 25mm base (but still fits on a 25, and I may use that anyway just for consistency.) And, I have a Wizard on a palanquin that really needs a 50mm base to do her justice.

So, is there an actual rule limiting base sizes? Or do larger based models just suffer the natural consequence of being limited by terrain they cannot squeeze between?

Thank you for any and all answers.

I haven't seen anything in the rules specifying base size.

One area that a larger base would have an effect is during the Group Activation part of movement. In Group Activation up to three soldiers within 3" of a wizard or apprentice can be activated, so some might say a larger base gives an advantage in this situation.

An easy fix would be to agree with opponent on how to handle measurements with a larger base. The measurement could be made from the center of the miniature or 3" from where the edge of a "standard" 25mm base would be on the model.

Personally I think you would be fine using the base that fits best and just be ready to clarify where you are measuring from if it makes a difference to your opponent.

There is no rule, but the most common sizes appear to be 20mm squares and 1"/25mm circles.

Keep in mind you want the base to be small enough that the figure can fit into closely spaced terrain.

Also, from pictures in the book, not all the figures used were even based… some were used with the irregular base molded as part of the figure, so anything goes, really.

I am using thin 1" dia steel washers, build up the base to simulate flagstones using Milliput or Kneadite and finished with a small amount of 'snow'.
As retzlaffmd said most of the figures in the Frostgrave pictures use their integral bases with painted on flagstone effect.
