Have been primarily 1/2400 but am really liking 1/3000 using 2" hex mats. |

I prefer 28mm, but it gets expensive to do the big battles that way so I also do 1/900 and 1/2400. Of the two I think I like the 1/2400 ones better. |

1/1200 and 1/300 and I have some 15mm figures and ships boats for landings |

My stuff is 1/1200. I had some 15mm figures, but got rid of them. Now, I'm kind of wishing I hadn't. BWW |

No real "favorite" – my preference varies with the scenario. I like 1/300 for small vessels and single ship actions, but I also have 1/600, 1/900, 1/1200 and 1/2000. The larger the battle, the smaller the miniatures, generally (except for the really huge Anglo-Dutch battle I'm planning in 1/600). |

1/1200 for general games, 1/450 for small ship actions, 1/2400 for really big fleet actions |

1/1200 smallest scale you can represent individual boats |
MajorB | 16 Dec 2015 6:25 a.m. PST |
1/1200 smallest scale you can represent individual boats You can represent individual ships at much smaller scales than that. My "age of sail" models are about 30mm long. Or did you actually mean boats as opposed to ships? |

No preference – so I own too many of them, dammit. I admit I've never had any interest in scales larger than 1/300, and managed to keep my actual battlefleets concentrated in 1/600, 1/1200, 1/2000 and 1/2400. "Figure scale" boats (15mm, 25mm, etc.) actually turn me off; most of them look too distorted, and maneuvering them on a gaming table is as awkward as wearing stilts in the house. 1/1200 smallest scale you can represent individual boats You can represent individual ships at much smaller scales than that. My "age of sail" models are about 30mm long. Or did you actually mean boats as opposed to ships?
He probably meant actual boats, as in ships' boats, cutters, etc. I have plenty of ships' boats in 1/2400 scale. The Figurehead "flotsam and jetsam" packs include a few (crewed and under oars!), and you can get uncrewed boats from WTJ and C-in-C. They are vanishingly tiny and hard to use for gaming, but they do exist. - Ix |

I do: 1/1200 for Anglo Dutch Wars 1/900 for SYW, 1/600 for tranistional steam 1/300 for Napoleonic, Armada, Renaissance, AWI I have ditched almost all my 1/1200 save for the A/G above an an unfinished armada project. Age. Eyesight, You know? |

1/2400, Figurehead has some nice ships! |
Ed Mohrmann | 16 Dec 2015 9:22 a.m. PST |
1/1200 favorite, but do have others (larger and smaller) |
martin goddard | 16 Dec 2015 9:33 a.m. PST |
1/450th A nice tactile size where the ships tend to be smaller. martin |

1/2400 for larger actions, 1/1200 for individual actions and am looking hard at Jeffs's 1/600 paper models for small (sloops and below) actions. |

I have 4 fleets of 12\13 ships each in 1-1200. Also a Swedish and Russian In-shore fleets in 1-1200 scale. I'm going to start doing 1-2400 scale after I have finished the last 4 In-shore Russians. I love my 1-1200 scale ships. I want to do big fleet actions, so its money and space which is making me go smaller. I will keep the 1-1200 ships. I hope I will like doing/playing with 1-2400 scale? time will tell! Be safe Rory |

When I started I used 1/2000 because of price. If I had to start again I would do 1/1200. |

1/2000 Valiant's. Easy to assemble, rig and paint to a satisfactory degree. They can take my frequent moving. |

1/2000th and 1/1200th. The Valiant ships are quite nice. |

I'm surprised at how many people have multiple scales in ships. I thought that was only done in ground-based games. Now is the part where I curse all of you for pointing me to the 'other' scales (non-1/1200). Now I am looking at those and salivating. |
Frantic | 19 Dec 2015 12:45 p.m. PST |
1/56 for me! I prefer smaller, irregular style engagements so that the focus is split between managing the ship and crew. |
gregoryk | 04 Jan 2016 9:14 a.m. PST |
i have a ton of 1:2400 which I like for gaming due to their durability and decent looks. |
KniazSuvorov | 04 Jan 2016 9:47 a.m. PST |
For gaming, I use 1/3000 minis from Forged in Battle's Trafalgar line. These things cost less than $2 USD each, paint up quickly, look good, and are basically indestructible. Plus you don't need a massive table to have a decent sized action. I build and collect 1/1200 as well, but these are a labour of love, and don't get near the gaming table. |
