I've a sudden hankering to play some WW2- partly because I picked up an old copy of 'Battle!', partly because Bolt Action is very popular round these parts and partly because I found myself buying a box of Airfix Germans. Three sections and some other bits have been wrung out of the box, and here they are arrayed in the churchyard of St. Kenneth's, the church they have captured.*

The colours have been blocked in quickly and vigorously, and given a gloss varnish coat. Not enamels, but close enough for 'the look of the thing'.

Next- armour, guns, half-tracks, and then some plucky Brits/Peasemoldians…

*these may look like Germans but they're actually soldiers from Nogbadstadt, committing another dastardly border raid on the peaceful nation of Peasemoldia. For more of this nonsense, see my blog- peasemoldia.blogspot.co.uk

There is something delightfully pleasing about a unit of block-painted glossy-coated toy soldier figures! They seem braver and more stalwart somehow. :-)

That is my approach for Crossfire

I heard Peasemoldia attacked first and crossed the Nogbadstadt border.

For the authentic Old School gaming experience the figures should be used straight out of the box, unpainted.

Yes agree with comments above – pleasing simplicity

They look a lot posher than the Airfix Germans I remember but nevertheless unmistakeably Airfix. Very pleasing and I salute the bases. Plain green, reminds me of the old Airfix Brunswick Green that I used to use for bases. I'm sure the figures appreciate being mounted on plain bases and not forced to lug round an inappropriate mini-diorama everywhere they go.

Look forward to seeing the Peasemoldians.

I still have my original set of (2nd issue) Germans I did for 'Battle'

The enamel paint over un-prepped plastic has held up surprisingly well in the last 40+ years, particularly as they are jumbled up in a box with their opponents: British Paras and US Marines (painted as US infantry).

Very nice, really have the "look". I'll have to go and dig out all my old airfix now…..

Great Stuff Joe, keep it going.

Fabulously evocative pictures. A real trip down memory lane to my early days of wargaming back in the 70's. Thanks for posting them.

Classic. When these guys superseded Airfix Germans Mk1 it was a good day to say the least. Very good old school stuff.
