The Bug thwarted my earlier attempts to get this thread off the slips, so let's try that again…
Stingray-D finally has a stablemate, in the form of sister-sub Triggerfish.

picture

Just some paint scratches and details like remote camera ports (the pearl bumps you can see on Sting's Perifin and hull) to give some finishing touches. Two down, three to go! Oh, and then there's the Manta class boats to do…

picture

… and decals for them, too; Stingray is sporting a few size-test decals for torpedo doors, directional thrusters, numbers, etc…

Stingray purists may wonder at the '06' on Sting's nose, but it's just her Squadron's number. Rest assured, her pennant number is always '3'. :)
And here's the basics for their base – Ocean City!

picture

- An old dental flosser and some $2.00 USD USD scented oil thingies! A few transport tubes, docking ports, and all will be suitably Anderson-esque.
Ocean City was built following the destruction of Marineville at the end of the Titanica War. That zany Commander Shore and his Hydromic missiles…
But meanwhile, the techs at ORCA have not been idle; the prototype Wahaika class subfighter is ready for her first coat of paint…

I'm very pleased with how quickly these convert up from a discarded trimmer. There will be at least six in the game I'm contemplating. Freedom for the Seas!!

I've only just managed to restore this topic after it was AGAIN eaten by the bug, so there will be updates and replies to questions folks have asked in another update soon.

I'll say it again, a brilliant piece of work!

Eclectic Wave14 Dec 2015 3:37 p.m. PST

Wow! Those are looking so good.

Must try making some of these myself, since they look so great!

I love that underwater pik station.

In the eaten post I asked where you find multiple old clippers for parts. I have passed on several such projects since I had only one broken whatsit for a ship and needed several.

Also, did you make the decals? They are great.

Absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Noted for future kitbashing inspiration and reference. Sir. You are truly mad. I salute you!evil grin

Thanks for the comments, all!

For those who came in late, here's the first thread I started on my Stingray : The Next Generation project –

TMP link

Now to answer some questions…

The Stingrays, as you'll see from the above link, started as Braun 1000 series shavers. The Wahaika class began as a Remington 'Girls on the Go' bikini trimmer.

I have a boxload of these things, and others, because I manage a small appliance retail store, and there's a heck of a lot of stuff that gets returned, written off, and thrown away.

It's a bit sad, really, to be on the cutting edge of the 'throwaway society'. But, it benefits me, and the cause of documenting the vessels and battles of the Second Tasman War. :)

Allan – I hear you! I've done the same in the past, and given up due to the inability to replicate a neat scratchbuild two or three times.

Oh – and yes, the decals are my own work, designed in Illustrator and printed on my laser. I'll need to outsource for the white decals, though.

Leland – you think I'M mad??? You should have seen Commander Shore and what he did with those Hydromic missiles….

Amazing work – they look fantastic.

Thanks for the info on what the models are made of.
