I've been playing the Spanish Civil War variant of Chain of Command for a little while now, but I'd never tried the vanilla WWII late war version. This week, I got to change that, fielding a brand new British Infantry platoon against the Germans. I was excited to see how it played compared to the SCW rules. See below for the battle report. Hope you enjoy. link

I like your terrain, especially the wheat fields. |

Thanks guys. I can't recommend CoC enough, pzivh43. mwindsorfw – Wheat fields are easy – just cut up a welcome mat. I've posted tutorials for the hedges, etc on the blog as well. |

Sounds like a very bloody game. How difficult is it to get a squad moving again once it has been shot up? |

In my experience, very. You only check to unpin when a turn ends, which might only happen a couple times during a game. |

It's actually not a bloody game at all-- unless you run your men out across open ground kills are generally infrequent. You are more likely to cause Shock and thereby make less effective and eventually pin units. |

Achtung Minen, CoC CAN be a bloody game, but this one did seem particularly brutal. We had some odd luck on the dice, which always skews things of course, but some of it was probably going from Spanish Civil War platoons to this. In the SCW the teams were larger, and casualties and shock took longer to matter. However, the fewer leaders in the SCW lists means its harder to recover once you are shot up. As for getting moving again, it's really depending on your use of officers. It's "Chain of Command" after all, and its all about using the officers to rally shock. If a squad loses its officers, it can be difficult to recover. |
