Check out V&V miniatures for small but excellent historical ranges. Lovely Egyptian…..BUT 40mm sadly for me.

Am looking for an rpg to play with my boy. He is seven but smart and needs something to challenge him. Don't want it complicated rules wise though. Can be a co op game or me being a DM.

Any recommendations for a simplish rules set? Or board game like D&D boardgame.

Cheers

Pulp Alley---more miniatures and less rpg

Castles and Crusades--not too expensive to get into--first edition D&D feel---you can probably make up a character in less than 20min

Try one of the DnD Adventure games or Hero Quest or the like.

Mice and Mystics. Story and RPG all in one. My kids loved it.

My friends' eight year old son played Mantic's Dungeon Saga at Dragonmeet and really enjoyed it.

Swords and Wizardry is a great entry level rpg, based on a cleaned up version of the original D&D. The pdf is also free!

A kid friendly version of the Cypher System is in development. Mechanically the Cypher System (Numenera, The Strange) is already very approachable, but "No Thank You, Evil!" is aimed younger.

You might try the WEG Ghostbusters game, VERY simple, available on the web for free and easily expandable with their Star Wars and other rpg licenses. If he is too young for Ghostbusters the movie you could show him the animated series episodes on you Tube.

Space Crusade and Heroquest are excellent games for boys. I have the back banners for the sergeants painted with my sons names on them still.

What you want is Dungeon Squad – very lite but fun RPG originally designed for exactly your situation. Free download too.
