I'm in the process of working on a Guadalcanal/Solomons campaign in 1:6000. I am having a bit of trouble finding the best Hallmark ships to represent Japanese Transports.

Any suggestions? I'm OK with a something generic that will serve the purpose of transport/troop ships/etc.

Thank you!

They converted a lot of smallish to medium liners into troop transports. Some pics:

Okay, two of those look like cargo ships. Click the class descriptions in the link below to see more pics.

IBM1 Large Tramps and IBM2 Medium tramps would be my choice. I don't think anything larger was used in the Solomons. If you want tankers 2JM2 War Emergency Tankers.

Of the 11 transports taking a large force at once to Guadal, only 4 or so (IIRC) actually reached guadalcanal, beaching themselves so that the troops and materials could be landed.

so Fatman's recommendation would work.

due to US dive bombers on the island, the IJN resorted to fast transports…i.e. converted destroyers with either the cargo lashed in drums to the decks or a few purpose rebuilt
older DD's like Minekaze class.

Awesome! Thanks guys!

I'm covered on the IJN DD front so I should have plenty of transports once I order these two packs of Tramps.

Glad to help. Must admit I have been browsing the Hallmark site a lot recently despite selling all my ships back in the 80's.
