Hey Fellas, Questions

1. What size building should be used in 1/285 scale play on a 1" hex map which each hex = 110yds?
(2mm & 3mm????)

2. What scale Tree should i also use with 1/285, 3/4" high to 2" high???

3. Which rulebook required me to trace to supply for my units, if not my units become "Out of Supply" and attack with half strenght?

Thanks

I assume you are trying to use 3D models in a board game?

2. I would go with 3/4" trees.

1. I'd go with 2mm buildings, but you might find it a bit messy on a 1" hex if you want to put a vehicle on the hex as well.

2. For trees, ¾" to 1" (at 1:285 scale a 2" tree would be 47'6" high, not unreasonable for a big tree, but with 1:285 model tanks I'd want to use short trees to minimise the risk of knocking them over.

3. What level are you working at and what time scale? Assuming 1" = 110 yards a 6 foot long table represents 4.5 miles and suggests a relatively short duration battle where tracing supply is not likely to be important (British armoured units in 1944 resupplied overnight).

Hey John,

I'm working off a 4'x 8' table. Each hex = 110yards. of course 1/285 scale. I have a hex & counter map that i will be working off of but like to drop down trees, and houses/buildings.

Sample of maps I'll be using:

A one inch hex is tiny, you'll struggle to physically fit some vehicles into that, let alone with terrain items too.

I usr small railroad modelling trees around an inch high, and for buildings you want the smallest footprint possible, but make sure they are higher than the models or they look silly.

Most 6mm buildings are so huge I use them with 15s, 3mm buildings would work or you could just make your own out of card.

I use 4" hexes with my 6mm stuff, which comfortably accommodate several bases as well as terrain items.

Steel11, try making cardboard templates of a tree, a few 3mm buildings and the biggest 1:285 vehicle you will use and see if it works for you.

My feeling is that it wont!

From the sample of maps, I guess the only vehicles you have to worry about is artillery limbers…
