Gents, A general question. I'm thinking on getting some 28mm minis from Foundry in their xmas special for a future project. I've been looking at suitable troops for WW1 East Africa. Can anyone give some ideas of what would be the best, perhaps most versatile, troops to use in the WW1 East Africa campaign from the Foundry Darkest Africa range? link I believe these are all Copplestone sculpts so they can fit in with Copplestone Castings figures as well…is that correct? Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards Happy W |

The Foundry Darkest Africa figures are wonderful, and the old ones were all sculpted by Mark Copplestone. However, that does not make them compatible with the Copplestone Castings figures. VERY unfortunately, Mr. Copplestone does not seem to be worried about 'scale creep'. Some but not all of the Copplestone Castings figures are HUGE compared to the Foundry DA stuff. I'm pretty relaxed and tolerant in general, but would never consider mixing 'em in the same unit. |

Brigade games has a very extensive line for the period ( I'm still painting) Copplestone are very nice but very big Foundry nice but smaller… And you would have to proxy too much stuff to get close |

I don't want to be one of those guys who answers your question by telling you to do something else but, in this case, I must agree with the others. Go with Brigade for a dedicated WWI in Africa line instead of trying to make something else work. |

Among the regulars, really only the German askaris are correctly uniformed and equipped so as to be suitable for the whole conflict. You can get away with using the Belgian askaris for the first year or so of the war, and for ruga-ruga a mix of any of the breech-loader equipped African and Arab types would work. |

I would order the Skirmish Campaign book Tanga 1914 from Brigade to first give you an idea of the forces you will need to then order from Brigade. The Tanga 1914 book provides a complete set of campaigns. The Brigade models are extremely nice and clean sculpts. I have a lot of the Copplestone models but if I were to do it again I would use exclusively the Brigade figures. |

I agree also ,Brigade has the nicest ,easiest to paint,w/ nice variety especially the Askari in hats rather the fezes,as they wore out on campaign.I have 4 other makes of figures ,these are the best. |
