Things are picking up. We have several new games for the Weekend, June 17th, 18th, and 19th 2016 in Lancaster PA. This years theme is sci-fi gaming. Not that the theme means much, as many non-sci-fi games have been registered as sci fi. Mitchell Freeman has put in a game called "Defense of EuClair" which is a miniaturized version of "The Creature that ate Sheboygan. Lots of monsters, national guard, armed civilians and all sorts of fun. With Mitchell's effort I decided to add another game of mine which is a development of "Creature's" stable mate, "Bug Eyed Monsters! They want our women." This will be the same game with different rules and will be a cross between "Paranoia" with the typical briefing sessions for the aliens, and then letting them loose on the hapless civilians of New Freedom New Hampshire. In addition to the stellar pulchritude of Bess Budge and Jane Delbert, others will show up like Stupefyin Jones and Daisy Mae, (and Ellie Mae Clampett) and it will soon be clear that the hunted will be the aliens. The family pets will be involved.. "Here Cujo.. nice doggie, nice doggie" The rest of it is a cross between the game and the script pot for a steamy soap opera, and assorted movies. For example there's the mystery of Mabel's diner.. "It takes all kinds of critters to make Ma Mabels fritters" goes the slogan. Eric Turner has put in a "Ethiopia on 2 Lira a day" and John Desmond has "Where the hell is the Eternium mind!" A mine, the only one in the universe on the only planet in the universe with a substance distilled from the piles of bat guano that litter the shafts that improves life, heals sicknes, enables one to see beyond space and time, and pick the winners in the MaJong tournaments. This mine is on the fabled planet FLORIDA also known as God's waiting room, which is where the eskimo ice floes with the old people dock, where the elves who go over the water to west wind up, the Indians happy hunting ground, and the snowbirds from New York come down to live in gated communities and talk about their illness' and lie about how good their grandkids are doing. In addition there are civil war and Seven Years War battles, and a game of time, and other games including board games and card games as well. Tracy Johnson will put his new and improved, new and improved "After the Holocoust" redisgn (I hear he's added nail salons and strip malls to the normal industry and oil facilities, and added other new features. Fun times shall be had for all. |

Wow Otto, at the rate things are going with regards to the Host, it won't be long before your little shindig is THE premier wargaming convention in the Northeast. Then you can move it to Fredericksburg and then Rusty Cop can start a thread called "THE WEEKEND NEEDS TO BE MOVED BACK TO THE NORTHEAST!"……………. |
Ottoathome | 09 Dec 2015 12:38 p.m. PST |
Dear Double G Doubt it. There are others larger and more "premier-ish." It's also never moving. I doubt it will also ever get much above 150 people. We have no delusions of grandeur at "The Weekend." Besides as I understand it someone is going to be opening a new convention in the Paramis- Bergenfield area, or else just north of JFK airport on the other side. |

Well, I'll be running some VSF silliness that will most likely take place on Mars. Other than that, it is too early to seriously consider a scenario as of yet. The rules will be GASLIGHT. I'm sure Otto will keep up with the announcements as 2016 progresses. Always look forward to the Weekend as it is a low key event with good friends. |

Bob is planning some appropriate historical silly game. Maybe two because we're close enough to run home and switch terrain. |
epturner | 16 Dec 2015 7:24 p.m. PST |
Dear Otto The game is actually "Africa On Two Lire A Day"… More about fighting Dervishes than Ethiopeans. Eric |

Unless you would like to learn about the Siege of Vienna, a wonderful rule set created by Otto, but which cannot ever be played by gamers who have less than a week… We've reviewed it. Well thought out, really reflects a siege (without the coffee and pastry). However, we're not playing it. |

Hey there, Is there a website for "The Weekend"? My GoogleFu has failed me. I was talking to some of my fellow Canadian gamers about your event a few weekends back and they weren't sure what I was talking about. Cheers. |
Ottoathome | 16 Dec 2015 10:37 p.m. PST |
Dear Among Lions We thought about this long and hard. Rather than make up a new web site, and the expense it takes (we don't like to drive costs up) we are using the Society of Daisy yahoo group as the coordination and news dissemination point. It's name on yahoo is SOCDAISY. Society of Daisy is a group dedicated to the promotion of Humor and Whimsy in the hobby, Imagi-nations, and it's quarterly newsletter, (print only sorry) "Saxe N. Violets." By searching SOCDAISY you should be able to find it, but if you can't contact me at sigurd@eclipse.net and I'll get you an invite to sign up with. Otto |

Dear Among Lions the URL to subscribe is mailto:socdaisy-subscribe@yahoogroups.com If you want to get on our mailing list for our quarterly update bulletins just send me your snail-mail postal delivery address to sigurd@eclipse.net. I will send you with that the After Action Report /Keepsake Bulletins for the last three years of The Weekend. This contains a photo essay and battle report of each game held at the con, and tells you all the data you need to participate, get there, get in, and see the fun you've been missing. We have several people who come down from Canada, some come from Wisconsin, Some from Texas, and of course from the PA, NY, and NE areas. We also have a gamer who flies over from England every year. We have several people who come down from Canada…… We do? I know of myself, and then there is Eric Turner who is a part-time Canuck and full time Tim's connoisseur. @AmongLions give Otto an email and he may send you an old After Action Report. It'll give you a good indication on what's offered. Oops, Otto almost ninjad me |

I always liked the minster that ate sheboygan. Did a miniatures version myself. Must dust that off. |
epturner | 18 Dec 2015 11:38 a.m. PST |
Hey Ralph. If a certain guy with "prefect" hair gets elected, it's gonna turn into full time Canuckistanian. The AAR Booklet does a good job of showing both the diversity and the humour of the Weekend. Eric |

Love Sci-Fi miniatures games… hope I can make the Weekender this year. I'm on several Yahoo groups sponsored by gamers already and to be honest, every time I log on I expect to hear a modem start up. The paper quarterlies are a BLAST. And the group is diverse, fun and just cranky enough to make fun of. ; ) THere's a wonderful energy at the Weekender. Glad to hear that other conventions are opening up, too. There are so many awesome games out there, so many ideas, platforms, … it beggars the imagination. Who would;t want to embrace all that this hobby has to offer? (yes, that was rhetorical) |

I have hopes of putting on "The Rescue (or Kidnapping) of Princess Trivia." There will be a ruined city, banths, white apes, various colors of Martian and a panthan or so. 'Cause it ain't Babes in Space without a scantily-clad Martian princess. |
