…Second World War.

"The Japanese government is to re-examine the guilty verdicts handed down in the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunals, which found 25 of Japan's military and political leaders guilty of initiating the Second World War.

The ruling Liberal Democratic Party will set up a panel this month to consider whether the Allies' rulings were justified, as well as the policies imposed on Japan after its defeat in 1945.

Of the 25 men found guilty of Class A war crimes – which included waging a war of aggression and "ordering, authorising and permitting inhumane treatment of prisoners of war" – six were executed. They included Gen. Hideki Tojo, who served as prime minister, and Gen. Seishiro Itagaki, the minister for war…"

In the case of Tomoyuki Yamashita, they may be right.

The Gray Ghost07 Dec 2015 4:31 p.m. PST

That will go over well in Asia

An interesting date/anniversary to announce this on.

The Japanese, like most of us, are their own worst enemies. This is either blind arrogance or crass stupidity on their part. And today of all days.

I'm sure someone will mention Unit 731 and Pinfang in the process.

Every time a Japanese government tries to spin history it just reminds most of the rest of Asia how pissed off they are at Japan.

Is tone deafness really that prevalent in Japan?

Seems fair to me that if the LDP find the defendants should not have been charged let alone found guilty, then as just compensation the Allies should permit them to vacate the surrender documents and allow events to proceed from where they left off in the late summer of 1945.

ZOC,
It's a bit late to restart play from the previous spot, it will take time to reset, but that's brilliant.

I think you're are going to have to look pretty hard to find anyone thinking many if not all of these[now deceased I'd imagine] IJF members are Not guilty. Of something that can considered a War Crime, etc. … But I think ZOC is on to something … wink

Sorry, what significant date? The article was written on the 13th November and is hardly news. The Japanese are always looking at their history normally with some ulterior left or right bias.

"The war of aggression was initiated by America and Japan had no choice but to fight back", Mr Moteki said.

That is all I need to hear.

PS: Yamashita is not included, only those who were at the Tokyo trials.
