Last week's game was Lobositz. We've already played this battle but that was using Black Powder so it was interesting to see how HoW played out. link

I was thinking about the battalion gun issue. Not from the rules perspective, but the OB perspective. Based on Kronoskaf, the Austrians have "34 battalions, 35 grenadier companies" and "70 x 3-pdrs guns" – i.e. enough 3-pdrs for 35 battalions to have 2 each. The Prussians have "22 infantry bns, 4 1/4 grenadier bns" and "52 battalion guns" – i.e. enough for 26 battalions to have 2 each. So maybe the Prussian grenadier battalions should have battalion guns? |

Thanks for the report on HoW. Great looking table. Did you like the pics in the book (Grin). Lobositz is my second favourite SYW battle from a wargamer's perspective. Good scenario with scope for 'what ifs' right from the start, great terrain, reasonably balanced forces, good commanders on both sides, what more could you want. It's also one of the best SYW battlefields to visit, IMHO. I've been twice and would go again over some I haven't been to. The vantage points at the Homolka mound and and the Morellen Bach area are superb, though the whole field is surrounded by good high ground to look from.
From the Homolka you can imagine the Prussian cavalry piled up in the flat bottomed valley between it and the Lobosch, and what a hill the Lobosch is…..
…..and from immediately behind the Morellen Bach, which is a good 15 feet higher than the 'boggy ground' (now allotments) you can imagine the Prussians below the slopes of the Homolka mound (right hand end of the hill extending from the left) from which Frederick observed the battle – he could see everything, except for the early morning mist.
Again, thanks for the report and reminding me to look at some pics yet again – It's an ace place! Best Regards, James Roach |

Thanks James. Great pics in the book and the photos of the terrain are excellent. Colin |

I was remiss in also saying what a splendid looking game. James, I'll bite. If Lobositz is your "second favorite SYW battle from a wargamer's perspective", what's your first? |

It's Kolin, a great stand up, attack Vs defence, battle. Not so many 'what ifs' but the terrain is perfect from a doable war gaming perspective. |
