I just posted up my first battle report for operation Iraqi Freedom (using the modern Bolt Action modification): link A few pictures to get you started:
I have a lot more work to do on the "modern" details for the buildings and such … but this is the first game and I got as much done as I could beforehand. Lots of my scatter terrain is still on order … but should be in soon hopefully. Anywho, I hope you enjoy the report. Regards, Jay |

Your Iraqi invasion game looks great, the terrain is superb, did you find BA run differently as a modern game? Was the casualty rate amongst US forces skewed? As the rules tend to be bloodthirsty. Cheers and happy gaming. |

Jay, the table and figures are beautiful. Love the great attention to detail. I have probably read about the manufacturer of the buildings you used in this layout on this site but the name doesn't come to mind, so who manufactured the buildings. I took a quick looked through your website and found it wonderful. I'll be back to it for sure. Thanks for posting. Richard |

@all: Many thanks for the kind comments. @Zargon: With the modifications it certainly is more "modern" but played along as I suspected. The intention with the modifications was to keep the core rules system usable for asymmetrical and symmetrical warfare – with army lists/special rules and scenario rules tilting it one way or the other. The core of the rules are updated to account for modern weapons, troop capabilities and such. The casualty rate was 13 KIA for the US and 61 KIA with 2 vehicles destroyed for the Iraqi's/Insurgents. This ratio is in a large part due to a few things: US troops have body armour, so they are regulars but get a +1 to their damage value (from 4+ to 5+ to kill) -- the Iraqi's/Saddam Fedayeen are inexperienced with a twist, which makes them 3+ to kill from shooting, but 4+ in close quarters --- the US units all use the medic rule (save a KIA on a 6+ from shooting) -- and lastly the US squads are MOUT trained which allows them to strike first on a building assault if they roll a 3+ on a D6 (otherwise it is simultaneous as normal). @War In 15MM: Thanks! The buildings are from Crescent Root Studio: link |

Really nice looking game you've put on there, just when I was thinking of selling my modern stuff! lol |

@Zargon: Yes, the ambush order is really the only "reaction" method in the game … but I'm actually ok with it. The balance (or rather, imbalance) between the combatants worked very well with the scenario rules. I'm also toying with adding an off coloured dice into the bag and when it is drawn roll 2D6 on a random events table (say 5-9 is nothing happens … but on other results you could have anything from a coalition air strike, technical or IED … etc. randomly show up/go off). Definitely not a "simulation" by any stretch … which is good because that is not what I like personally and is what the others rule sets I've tried are. @D A THB: lol … don't go selling, get playing! :-) Thanks all! |
