Our Nook HD+ is giving up the ghost after years of faithful service--and worse, it won't run the current version of the reading app our school uses. What would you recommend as a budget tablet with no 4G, doesn't need a tremendous amount of processing power or memory, and doesn't need to be huge? Please explain your recommendation, not just, "Well, I bought this." |

Can the Lenvono Yoga 2 tablet quite cheaply. I got the earlier version, as shape is a lot easier to handle than a plain slab. Has good battery life & Micro SD slot. |

Kindle Fire is cheap just now. Or at least it was a few days ago. |

Yes I think a Kindle Fire will work for you as well. I have the HD model but a basic one should suit yourself, they have thousands of books and audible books as well. Also I can do my email on it and surf the web easily. Highly recommended. Also they are advertising a Fire Tablet here in the UK for £49.99 GBP! Not sure what you mean by cheap thou? |

Not $400 USD, definitely. $200 USD, less would be desirable. Thanks! Will the Kindle run a Nook app? We have a lot of books on Nook. |

I have acer iconia. 16 gb storage. I use it for browsing the net and Reading. Kindle fire was too small for me. Came with Kindle app installed. I know there is free nook app for Android, you should explore this. I paid $120 USDCDN 18 months ago. I am in Canada. Browsing is ok, a tad slower than on regular laptop. Reading experience quite good, with bright screen. |

The new Nvidia Shield K1 is a whole lot of Android bang for the buck. $200 USD and one if the most powerful tablets available. |

What is your use case? Strictly browsing, photography, games, game aid, pdf storage, etc? Most of the low end tablets aren't going to stay current enough to run updated apps, but if all you are doing is surfing and video watching, that won't matter. In general, I'd give the same advice as I do when considering a laptop. First decide your maximum budget and then spend it. |

Get Calibre software for free and you can convert your Nook files into whatever format you wish, on whatever tablet you get. |

Yeah, I use calibre to convert a bunch of ebook files back and forth for use with a kindle. It's quite handy. |

Thanks, all, for recommendations. Purpose is e-reader, web browsing, occasional game aid w/ PDF rulebooks, school reading program (RazKids), and a few kids games. |
