I have a very large collection of MBA and similar resin buildings in 28mm, mostly Renaissance but some more modern European. I would like to supplement my collection with 4Ground and similar MDF buildings for more variety in creating WW2 European townscapes, but they do not match well enough. Has anyone tried to repaint or reskin (with some sort of plaster-type product) MDF buildings? |

I haven't skinned MDF, but I have skinned scratchbuilt foamcore buildings with a mixture of filler and PVA. Once hardened it is indestructible. I've also surfaced MDF bases with filler (no PVA) and have never had any problems with adherence. link |

Artist shops sell various products which are basically modelling pastes for giving texture to paintings. It is a very light and easily spreadable material that sets rock hard and can be sanded. Even just scraped on and then scraped off leaves a nice plaster texture behind. By a cheap palette knife at the same time to do the work. |

Basetex adheres to MDF fine for basing so would work ok for buildings I'd reckon. L |

I've purchased some building kits from GameCraft. They do a bunch of videos that are on youtube. Below is a link to one that has assembly, prepping and finishing info. The material is different but in the video he states that he uses the same process for MDF as well. It includes brand, name and product number info of products used. Just past the 10 minute mark is sealing. At 22 minutes is painting & texture. YouTube link |
