Tipu was the ruler of the Indian state of Mysore, acknowledged by contemporaries to be a powerful ruler, a military commander of great distinction – and a hated foe of the British East India Company. Tipu fought three separate wars against the Company; during the course of these conflicts, he was portrayed by the British as a cruel and tyrannical despot, a fanatical Muslim who forced his subjects to convert to Islam and tortured captured British soldiers in his foul dungeons. Not true about converting his subjects to Islam, though beneficial if they did. His father Hyder Ali Khan was very live and let live about the Hindu faith. Better to have faithful subjects for his army and such. His punishment though if betrayed or wronged was very vengeful and his son Tipu picked up where he left off.British propaganda was that wat with all who opposed them. He was agreat leader ,but once French help and D'Bussey were gone ,it was hard to beat the Empire. |

I'd say Hyder Ali was a great leader, Tipu…not so much (though he could pull the amazing stunt or two). |
